So I'm about to order my speakers subs and amps, I kind of want to keep the stock Headunit and upgrade to the 8.4an eventually to keep stock fit and functionality.

Anyway I've read a few things that say a line output converter won't work with these rams without an amp?

Any truth to that, anyone have one installed on a base system? Any input? What wires do a tap into, any diagrams?

I just don't want to waste time and money if I have to go aftermarket

Well I've used a LC7i in another build and it worked great. In the ram's as long as you are putting an amp behind the LC7i you should be fine. Where it gets a little convoluted is if you have the alpine system which is a whole other can of worms.

You made it work without the Alpine? All the information I can find is so confusing.
I don't have the Alpine system so it would work correctly?

yes it should work, I think were people were having issues is when they tried hooking after market speakers straight up to the headunit but I could be wrong. Lets see if Troutspinner will get in here as I know he did some testing with the 5.0 system.

Some with the 5.0 system are running into issues when connecting to a LOC or an amp that has high level inputs as the stereo is not seeing the correct ohm load. There are a few threads about the issue here, the other ram forum, the jeep forum and the challenger forums about this. Some have overcome it by piggy backing off of the stock speakers or by adding resistors but most of the threads I have come across seem to be dead ends.

I am running a 8.4A so I never got "hands on" with the 5.0. I like tinkering with things like that and wouldn't mind trying to figure it out if the opportunity presents itself.

i actually have the ra1 3.0, if that changes things. But your making it sound like it would just be easier to go aftermarket

If I had a 3.0, I'd go aftermarket in a heartbeat. Afternarket solves many issues that stockers have to overcome. But for the record, I have not heard of any issues with the 3.0 like guys have ran into with the 5.0.

gotcha. Well let me put it this way. I was looking to upgrade to the ra4 8.4an, eventually.

I wanted to keep the stock look and functionality.

You have the 8.4a non alpine? How hard was that to get working properly? Would i need anything other than the lc7i?
or even in that case should i just say **** it, suck it up and go aftermartker

You wouldn't need anything other than a LOC for a 8.4a or an. Integrating it into your vehicle has its nuances. There are threads here about just that so you can read and decide for yourself. I think the major complaint is the volume knob / steering wheel volume control.

I'm running the lc7i as well, hooked into my 8.4A. I had a system in my '07 as well. My '13 when I finally got my system put in I had them install the lc7i. I don't have my door speakers done yet just my subs, the lc7i works great but it's not to its full potential. The lc7i has different amp inputs, my sub amp is plugged into the first input which isn't the bass input. Once I get the door speakers and amp installed all I have to do is plug the multi channel watt in the first input then plug my bass amp in the sub input to utilize the "accu-bass" feature. What sold me on the lc7i is the bass hits a plateu then faxes back out after a certain volume on our factory radios, with the accu-bass feature it keeps the bass from fading out the louder you want to turn the radio up.
My setup:
8.4A
2- kicker cvr comp 10"s
Kicker 1200W mono-block
Lc7i

Has anyone tried the LC7i with the Alpine system yet? I'm just curious cause I am sure I'll want to upgrade mine.

I have the lc2i on my alpine system. Works well and fixes the roll off from factory head unit. I just tapped in my rear subwoofer wires. If you don't have a factory sub grab a signal from rear door speakers.
