Today I finally had the opportunity to install a leather wrapped steering whell in my 15 Ram 3500 ST. I got it on eBay for a good price. It came out of a 14 1500 8 speed so it has the shift buttons above the cruise buttons.
The istallation was simple thanks to posts and pictures on this forum and a couple of very informative YouTube videos.
I disassembled the front trim and painted it with SEM Agate color interior paint that i used on my 96 1500, 01 3500, and 11 Challenger on various trim pieces. I think it matches my truck better than the light goldish color.
Also thanks to information about the steering wheel recall I wiretied the wire as directed to avoid problems later. My 15 already had the short wires and protective caps on the airbag screws.
The whole job took under 2 hours and would have been a bit quicker but I had to grind down the fingers on the Harbor Freight steering wheel puller so they would not damage the clock spring.
The main purpose was to gain audio controls and the leather wheel is a plus. They work great. The shift buttons however do not work with the 6 speed. JUST SO YOU KNOW. There was and old open ended thread that never answered this question. It is no big deal and i have no plans to swap out the button cluster at this time.
Now i have the same control setup as my 2 Dodges and Monte SS.
