Hey guys,
Hopefully, you guys can answer my "newbie" questions. I have a 2017 Ram 1500 Limited with factory projectors. I want to upgrade to LED for my high, low and fog lights. I am looking at the Katana or Hikari bulbs.
- Can I use these brands with the factory projectors?
- Which brand would you recommend?
- Would you use the same bulb for high and low and then a different brighter bulb for fogs - or same for all?
- Do I need anything other than what comes in the box? Different wiring, ballast, fans etc.
- If anyone has seen them both - which one is brighter. I plan on using the 6k bulb

Any other information is appreciated. I have read so much on LED headlight and fog lights I'm confusing myself lol

I’ve not seen an LED in the OEM projectors, but I had both Katana and Hikari Ultra in my Alpharex projectors (H7 for both). I can’t compare them to halogen in the same projectors, but I can say they weren’t great. They were fine cruising around town, but at highway speeds, I was out driving them. I do live in the Houston area, so a ton of ambient light. I imagine they would be better if you live in an area with minimal ambient light.

I would recommend HID for the projectors over LED. Pick your brand and get a 5500k kit. If you insist on 6000k, so be it, but you will have less useable light than a 5000-5500k. I run 6500k in mine, but I also have 45w ballasts which reduces the color temp a bit. They’re closer to 5500k and bright as hell.

if you do insist on Hikari or Katana, I think they have “error cancellers” built in. If you do get an error, you will need to download the AlfaOBD app and get a suitable Bluetooth dongle for the OBD port and change your settings to LED.

I use the morimoto 2stroke 9006 LED for my fogs, i like them, nice white light.
I use hids for the projectors, hylux 45w ballasts and 5500k morimoto bulbs, leds in projectors just dont work as well. I left my highs stock.
I also use alfaobd to change settings so i didnt need all the canbus adaptors on my hids.

There's alot of options but for me these worked best.

I used the Auxito LEDs in my highs and lows (with factory projector lens) and BeamTech LED in the fogs. For whatever reason the Auxito didn't want to work in the fog location. I also used AlfaOBD to change settings to LED lighting. So, no ballasts are used in my setup. Something to consider above all is the length of the bulb because they will have to fit in the housing when you put the cover back on (how do I know right?) If it's a long bulb the cover won't fit. There is a company that makes an extension for the cover but I couldn't find the link for it. At any rate, you'll have to align them to make sure your projection is straight so you'll want to make sure they can be adjusted as well (set screw and rotate appropriately). You can rack your brain on options but once you pull the trigger and they come in - you'll be so much wiser, Good luck with your search and you should also be able to find videos of the particular bulbs you are looking at as well.

I'd recommend HID for the low beams as HIDs work great in projector headlights. I'd go with LED for the high beams and fogs.
