leveling kit

Hey guys, this is my first post on here so be easy haha

I just recently got a 2003 1500 and have plans for her but want to start off with a leveling kit. I've kind of looked around but am at a lost as to what to buy and where to look for quality. Also, are they easy to install? Or is this something better left to the pros?

First question are you 4x4? if so you can just crank your torsion bars to level and save some money.

You could purchase keys but they do the same exact thing as cranking the t bars but allows you more adjustability

I have a DIY posted in this section for doing both. Assuming your a 4x4 its crank the bars unless you have access to the tool to remove the keys. The bars are under alot of pressure and the clamp does it safely. Deff soak the threads in penetrating oil and get you a good breaker bar and be ready for a workout if your not used to wrenching.

Yes i do have a 4x4! That's kind of what I've been reading. Now do I HAVE to get new torsion keys? Or can I just crank on the existing ones? Also, I want to raise it about 2 inches...how many turns do I have to crank it? Im asuming that I will have to get an allignment after I do this...is that correct?

Yes; an alignment will be needed. You can crank on the existing torsion key bolts to raise your truck but will be a stiffer ride. A tape measure will come in handy when you're turning the bolts. I don't remember how many turns it is but keep a note of the distance between the bolt head and the seat it's going up into. Also take a measurement of your fender to ground distance. It's a pretty simple process. A long breaker bar helps out a lot.

Thanks for adding the link Butch couldnt do it on my phone the other day. A marked socket and measuring tape will be your friend. Make sure you bounce the front end also or move it some because the measurements will be inccorect and settle.

Try to do this on a level surface if you can. It just makes things easier when taking measurements.

Like others have said, just crank the stock torsion bars. Save your money and use the stock keys. Aftermaket keys are not worth it because the ride quality will be the same with stock keys cranked 2" vs aftermarket keys cranked 2''.
