Hey all, I'm looking to do either a TGC 1.5" or a HBS 2" level on my truck. I'm debating on which size tire to run. I've had 3 sets of Duratracs in the past and love them. I am debating on either a 285/60/20(33.5") or a 275/65/20(34.1"). The 275 actually weighs in 2lbs. lighter but is obviously taller and spins 610 revs per mile, where the 285 would be a bit heavier but spin 622 revs per mile. I know that the 285 will throw my speedo off more but I'm wondering is which of the two is going to be better for performance and MPG? I have 3.55's and don't want the truck to be hunting for gears on hills. If there was a tuner available I wouldn't even question the taller tire lol.

Thanks in advance!

i had the 275/65r20 in terra grapplers and they looked pretty good and i didnt notice too much of a mpg drop. I have a pic to show you what the look like on a truck with bilsteins at 2.8 and a rear 1" spacer.

Thanks for that Disturbed! Do you have 3.55's? How far off was the speedo?

That's not bad. I'm sure the 3.55's will take a bigger hit but nothing detrimental.

Don't worry a thing about the 3.55's. I was pretty wooried about them due to a grade I pull every year. It is a 6% grade for 24 miles. The 3.55's rocked. No engine oveheating. No tranny overheating. 60 mph to the top. Do your thing and forget about it. 275 65 20's for me. No worries. 6500 lbs trailer. You'll love it.

gears have nothing to do with the speedo no matter what size tire you have.

get the 2" HBS kit over the 1.5" top guns. I have the 2" hbs and my truck still has a slight rake to it.

He said tire size will throw off speedo not gears.

Thanks for that bit of info on the HBS. That's more than likely what I'll get. I could see where those posts would get jumbled a bit but they were two separate questions. Was talking more of a performance hit, not a speedo hit.
