Change oil before you even start it,as it's virtually impossible to not have some anti-freeze make it into the pan from pulling the heads, then run it for 15/20 minutes on cheap oil and filter, then change the oil/filter again, then change it again by at least 500 miles, then i'd do it once more at about a 1,000 miles, then switch over to your normal oil change intervals. You just spent a pile of money and labour to replace the cam/lifters,don't cheap out on the oil changes afterwards
So, you mean do 2 "cheap" oil changes? One to catch/dilute the antifreeze coming into the pan from pulling the heads, then another to start and run it for 15/20 minutes? Or do you mean start the repair without draining the oil, then pull the old oil and run cheap stuff once?

How cheap are we talking? I run 5w-30 full synthetic Pennzoil. Should avoid going into synthetic blend territory, or is that what we mean by cheap?

Thank you for clarifying!

Change oil after you've buttoned it all back together, but before you start it,then change it and the filter after you've ran it for 15/20 minutes, for these changes any cheap oil will work. The idea is to flush out any anti-freeze and other crud that might have made it into the oil pan from pulling the heads and replacing the cam

Just waiting on some lifters coming in today. The previous Mopar ones I ordered off Ebay turned out to be non MDS. So I'll be returning those possibly or keeping them for later down the line on a different project. The heads got cleaned, magnifluxed, vacuum tested, only needed .004 milled off. They installed the Mopar springs and valve seals. The right side manifold got machined. I used polishing stones and opened up the intake manifold ports to match the witness marks where the head seals, cleaned it out with toilet bowl scrub brush and simple green degreaser then pressure washed the **** out of it. Just a time killer project waiting on parts might improve efficiency.
