I’m still pondering what I want to do. It’s stock displacement now, I would like to stroke it, but i don’t know if it’s worth it for the long run? I’d like to hear from folks how their stroked 5.7’s handle it over a long period of time for a daily driver, but realistically I don’t drive my truck 15 thousand miles a year any more. I’m also a bit worried that if I stroke it with already 500 RWHP that the tranny will go next... That extra torque would sure be nice though...
I’m kinda in the same situation as you. But I know I’ma beat my self if I put a built 5.7 in it, knowing I wanted a 392 stroker lol

Yep. My only issue is that running the stroker probably means I need a new profiled cam... And a stroker means I'm going with a new forged crank, I'm sort of leaning towards bullet-proofing the rods/pistons, built with gaps/compression for forced induction, and maybe going one size bigger on my pulley, don't really want too many more horses or I'm going to need a new transmission!

James and Ashkon you guys might want to join this facebook page and ask a few questions on it.There's some pretty decent engine builders and tuners on this site, and you might be able to get a few answers and do some brain picking from them.

Seems like a lot of work and money but what else can one do? The wallet will shrink and the expectation will be long. Go at it and have patience.

Well just spoke with jay, and he is saying either the forged 5.7 or 392 is fine but my cam may be small on the 392. Gonna call LME tomorrow and get some specs on the pistons tomorrow and see if I can go about buying another cam from jay.

Many drive vehicles with the top land broken and don't even know it. Many time there is no damage to the cyl walls and the piece that broke off goes out the exhaust valve and is stuck in the cat. Or it can float into the intake and reside there until it decides to break loose and go into a different cylinder. I always recommend replacing the intake manifold when yo have missing pieces. You can put it all back together and that piece break loose causing another teardown.

This is really common on the 392 that are sprayed or boosted. Less common on the 5.7s but easy to break the top land. If spraying or bosting, get some drop in pistons and set the ring gap appropriately.

Yes sir, getting ready to let Lme build me a 392 short block. Hopefully I won’t have to deal with this no time soon lol

There are some pretty solid techniques to repairing holes in engine blocks. You see it more in tractors and heavy equipment than you do on cars.
This being in the skirt of the block is a best case scenario.
The engine slung a rod because of a hyrolock. It needs a piston, rod, replace bent intake valve, a windage tray, oil pan repair and of course the hole in the block fixed.
It is from a 04 Durango and they had a known issue of the intake manifold cracking. To top that there was another known issue of instead of draining way rain water from the cowl, it dump it on top of the engine.

I'm familiar with stitching a block back together, spent to many years in the oil patch, lol. I've seen all kinds of fixes, from stitching and even one case where the block was brazed back together,as long as it'd hold oil and finish pulling pipe that's all that mattered,i even JB Welded a crack up solid in an old 6 cylinder AMC once and the car was still running several years later, lol. But in the case of a 5.7,there's enough engines kicking around in wrecking yards for not a hell'va lot of money,i'd scrap that block and start over with one that wasn't air conditioned, lol. For the cost to replace the block,it's hardly worth the time or aggravation to glue that one back together, even if you're looking at it as a challenge.

YES OMG.... our 2005 Durango also dumped rain water onto the top of the its engine. My mechanic realized what was going on when it started running roughly. He refashioned an cowling cover and a secondary engine shield cover after replacing whatever had died because of the water. All told he charged a couple of hundred to fix. I was told that we got off cheap.
