Hi all, I'm on here doing some research for my father, who's looking to replace his Silverado with a Ram (per my recommendation). I have to be honest, as much of a car enthusiast as I am, I really don't know much about Dodge Trucks (or RAM trucks as they're currently branded). We're definitely looking for something from the current generation, a 4x4 drivetrain and a V8 engine. Budget is set around a $35,000. The truck will primarily be kept at his house in Maine, where he uses it for hunting, driving and general work. He will also be taking the truck with him on his hunting trips to Colorado, New Mexico and Canada each year, so comfort is very important.

What should I know about changes and variations between 4th gen model years? Are certain years better than others? Do some years have certain problems associated with them? I'm definitely a newbie here, so please point me in the direction of any threads that may be helpful/applicable to me. I will also continue to search the site for additional information.

I look forward to becoming a member of the Ram community!

My opinion...I am a die hard toyota tundra guy but there was something about the Ram that caught my eye...I always wanted a hemi so it all tied me in. I just ordered up a 2014 Ram Outdoorsman yesterday! loaded up! What impressed me most was the ride and comfort. The guys at the dealership let me take two different trucks home to run around in. I even put the baby car seat in the back. Rode like a dream! The style of the interior is incredible and they are just a comfortable truck to drive, not to mention the factory 4-corner air system and ram boxes..I was sold.

The comfort is why I recommended the vehicle to him. It's funny, he recently replaced his Escalade (a GM product) with a WK2 Grand Cherokee Overland V8 (a Chrysler product). Now he's looking to replace his Silverado (a GM product) with the Ram (a Chrysler product). At least he'll already know what to expect from the 5.7L V8.

We've been looking at lightly used Larmie models, as having many creature comforts is a priority.

welcome... for 09-10 models, one can buy aftermarket gears and valvebodies for them. 11+ are different and there are no aftermarket gears and valvebodies for them yet if i'm not mistaken. some of the 13's have the A8 transmission which i hear is awesome.

Ram, is like the Ferrari/Cadillac of trucks IMO. These bad ****'s are incredible on the inside, sleek and attractive as hell on the outside, and they've got power for anything you can throw at them!
