Hi guys, I haven't run much for Dodge over the years except for a '98 dually Cummins for years as my work truck. Aside from the body rusting away it was an amazing 400,000 mile truck. Now I have some friends that have a farm and are doing some serious downsizing and a ton of stuff goes on an auction later this month. One of which is a 2004 Ram 2500 4x4, regular cab long bed with a 5.7 Hemi and an automatic tranny. Nice truck with minimal rust. Its actually had very little use as it was the work truck for one of the patriarchs of the family and she simply didnt use it much. 58,000 miles.

Its had all the ball joints changed and a few other things. They think it needs an o2 sensor but other than that no known issues. I know next to nothing about these Hemi's so I was doing a little searching and came up with horror stories about either intake valve issues or the cam rollers wiping out the cams.

I was seriously thinking about trying to pick it up especially since I've known its history since new, but can someone tell me with some accuracy just how prevalent these issues are? Its easy to be made to believe that everyone on the road is gonna blow at some point.

My 04 2500 has been exceptional with 144K and tows 7200 lbs regularly.

My biggest gripe would be no OD off and changing sparkplugs.

I've heard valve seats but know of no one locally with issues with 04's.

You probably found the eagle hemi cam issues online, next generation and they fixed it. A few 03-06 cylinder heads had busted valvesprings and some dropped seats; while a few were random, most of the dropped seats folowed an overheat (aluminum head and pressed in but not pinned steel valve seats). I will say that I am running an 03 with about 160,000 miles on it; no issues. Had an 06 Charger, same engine, 180,000 plus miles no problems (accident took that one down) and an 05 Magnum, same engine with over 150,000 miles, no problems. You take care of it and it will take care of you.

Good to know. If I buy this I will be hanging my snowplow on it. I wonder how much of an overheat caused the issue? 210? 220+? Most of my plow trucks over the years hit 210 fairly often. In fact all of our Duramax diesels run at 210.

Stock thermostat is 203°, so under heavy load I'm sure it will hit that. Common mod is switch to a 180° or 190°.

I switched to a 180 thermostat while back.
210* ain't nothing to worry about, infact normal running temps for a lot of vehicles.
