Has anyone else experienced this? I have let my tire pressures go a little lower than the recommended 39 psi for my 2014 Ram Express. This made for a more comfortable ride on the AT tires I have. The pressures have been in the 35 psi range which is what I wanted. This morning, it was about 28F and when I started the truck, I got a warning that the pressure in 2 of the tires was at 30 psi which triggered the warning. After doing a short errand I checked the TPMS and one tire was at 33 and the other 3 were at 32 psi with the original 2 tires still flashing (see attached). I know some of you go off road with your vehicles and willl lower you pressures to 25 or 20 psi or lower. I was wondering if this has caused any issues for you and, if so, is there a way to override the 30 psi minimum warning but still not cause issues when driving on road at normal pressures?

Maybe a setting accessable through AlphaOBD? I've wondered about that myself. If you go with a larger/wider tire than stock, you likely will be running a lower tire pressure due to the larger contact patch.

Same hear. Got new sensors and new TP is at 35 (below factory 39), so for a couple days it showed a warning and pressure at 32, which it was not. Did nothing but double-checked pressure with a handheld gauge and drove for two days. Light/warning went off, despite me driving at 35 and it being below the factory 39.

I know. There were no problems until the pressures hit 30 psi - then the warning.

TPMS alerts at 20% below the door pressure, which is the limit input. You can change those limits with AlphaObd. I run 40 rear and 45 front on my 2500, so I lowered the TPMS thresholds to 38, so they alert at 30, all round or I would have warnings on full time.

Once the TPMS low pressure warning is triggered you need to inflate to above the door or threshold limit if you changed it, to get it to turn off.

Good to know. I inflated all tires to 36 psi but I haven’t driven it yet so I may have to go up to 39 to get the warning to go off. Do you know if this is something that can be cleared with AlfaOBD instead?

Never tried to clear it with Alpha, outside of adjusting the thresholds.

As stated the alert typically does not trigger until the tires are 20%-25% below the target pressure. If target is 39 psi that means they will trigger around 29-31 psi. However once the alert is set you normally have to inflate them all the way up to the target pressure to reset the alert. So to restate that, the system will not set off the alert at 32 psi. But once it gets down to 30 psi in your case the alert comes on. Once the alert comes on even if the pressure goes back up to 32 psi the alert will remain on. You will need to inflate them up to 39 psi and probably drive it a little until the alert goes off. Once the alert is off you can lower the pressure back down to 35 psi or whatever you want. Just keep in mind the temp when you inflate them and the expected low temps your area will see at night. If it's 60F out during the day when you inflate them and it drops to maybe 20F at night the corresponding pressure may drop enough to trigger the alarm. The general rule of thumb is that tire pressure will drop around 1 psi for every 10F degree drop in temperature. Take into account what the temp swings may be and adjust your tires accordingly to avoid possibly having the tire alert come on at night or the morning when it's cold.

I appreciate all of the input here. As an update, and confirming what has been posted earlier, after inflating to 35 psi all around, 2 of the tires continued to flash a warning after I drove it. Interestingly, when I went to inflate all of the tires to 39, one of the flashing tires corrected itself - don’t know why!? With being slightly warmed up (driving plus today’s temps were in the low 50’s) the pressures were in the 37 range but, again, only 1 of the tires corrected itself. After inflating all to 39 psi, everything is now normal. I reduced to 37 and still good.

I’ll have to go in with AlfaOBDAnd lower the setting to 35 psi which is the target value I was after. Thanks again to everyone for their input.

I noticed on my Ram that when the low tire PSI warning came on one tire was at 32 and was flagging the alert, while another tire was at 32 and was deemed by the system to be just fine. How can that be?

Your display only shows full pounds. Use a digital tire guage and you will see the flagged one is lower prssure. It will be 32 the other may be 32.9.

This just happened to me on 2014 Ram. I put them all to 39 and will drop them to 35, to get better traction on all the ice we have in Eastern Montana. I hope that I don’t get another warning on my dash.

Its easy to lower tire psi warning thresholds with alfaobd.

I run my 35s daily at 29psi for better ride and traction and will deflate to 20psi for off road driving.

Set my warning to 18psi to stop the nagger from displaying on screen.

According to everything I’ve seen, you need to get the PIN for your vehicle to change the tire pressure threshold with AlfaOBD. Is that what you have found or is there another way?

2013 sport here. This is what I did.

- buy the obdmx+ that is recommended.
- download android app
- buy alfa license
- connect and change parameters

Good luck friend

2021 2500, no pin needed. Just obd and security cable.

My understanding is that you can set the tire pressure without a PIN but you also need to reset the RF HUB which supposedly does require the PIN. Were you able to do both without the PIN or do you even need to do both?
