I was wondering if anyone else has changed their lower ball joints on a coil spring truck 2wd. I see posts for 4x4 and air spring suspension but not coil spring 2wd. I need to change mine and I’d rather not spend 300 plus on another control arm when I could just press in a new ball joint. I attached s picture of my ball joint I’m not sure if the top is a cap that comes off or just presses through.

Just did the lower ball joints on my truck a little while ago. My truck is a 4x4, but it does not have air suspension. My ball joints looked exactly like yours.

Short version: you are going to have to take a grinder and remove those “tabs” that have been punched into the ball joint.

What you are seeing is the ball joint body. When they are put in at the factory, instead of a retainer clip, they punch/press the joint body like that to keep it from backing out.

I may have a pic or two from when I did my joints, I’ll see if I can find them.

Edit:found pic. Don’t know if it’s because it’s 4x4, or because it’s a 2012, but mine only had 3 tabs punched on the joints.

Thank you for the reply, pictures would help, just curious what ball joint did you go with as a replacement? My truck is a 2016 but I’m guessing all 4th gen are similar. I saw moog and mevotech lower balljoints I read that the mevotech I think it was fits all models but not sure.
