I have a question. To start I have a Ram 2013 1500 with a limited slip differential oem. It is an express and has the better in my opinion 44-45 t case. I noticed the other day on a slick hill that even in 4wd it seamed I was sliding around until I shut the traction control off. Then I felt both rear tires grab and away I went. Is it best in snow and mud and i want the lsd to kick in to turn traction control off or will it work with it on. Does the traction control keep the lsd from engaging. I was sliding around trying to climb the slick hill until I turned traction off then it went straight up.

I'm sure more will chime in with more helpful information, but traction control and the rear diff are unrelated. One does not trigger the other and vice versa. I would imagine that the traction control is interfering with the actuation of the rear diff. Traction control cuts power intermittently to prevent sliding, while limited slip diffs need power to transfer it from wheel to wheel.

I had the dealership order and install the Ram limited slip so it would not void the warranty. they even cover it under the truck extended warranty untill 6-2020. It's spring loaded type and requires one to spin at a certin revolution before the other axle like a ventrifical clutch kicks in. So if the traction control is braking then how can it fully engage the lsd? I had a buddy tell me to turn the traction control off to do a burn out. So am I reading this right.

I'm not exactly sure why they designed it that way, but you are correct. Traction control is basically a failsafe, so the passive driver doesn't fishtail and drift every time it rains.

Rusty, if you're not totally clear on how your truck puts power to the ground, do some Internet searching; Find a video that shows exactly how the systems in your truck work. That's what I had to do.

And when the going gets tough. Turn the nannies off and trust yourself.

If the LSD does it's job, the traction control doesn't have to engage.
The traction control engages the ABS on the wheel that is spinning and can reduce engine power output to further help "maintain" traction (both wheel spinning at similar speeds).

I never understood how the application of brakes facilitated forward progress.

But you have to do what works for you. Normal driving, I leave it on. When the spinning starts, I'll take it from there.

It applies the brakes on the 1 wheel thats spinning so the other one will grab the road and move the truck...supposedly....
