Was looking for a Gen4 Laramie for several weeks now... Was pretty much set on splurging on a lightly used ones that were within my budget. Loved the brown/beige interior on them. Started making offers to dealers...

But today I stopped by our local RAM dealer and happened to hop into 19 Longhorn with a brown saddle interior with 12" screen. Don't know why. Sticker was 64k.

I think I heard angels singing when I sat in it. I thought I died and was in heaven. I didn't mind to stay in there forever. Holy crap. No $200,000 Mercedes can match that.

So that's it. Gen4 has instantly become plain and boring to me. No way I'm spending 35k on a used Gen4 now, too much money for something that went from being "very nice" to "just ok" now...

So basically, I can afford G4 but I lost all interest in it now.
I can't afford a G5 Longhorn until massive rebates hit, but I don't expect that to happen anytime soon if ever.

Basically this visit rendered me unable to buy a truck altogether. I'm all or nothing kind of guy. If I'm paying a lot of money for something it has to be perfect. And in my book only 19 Longhorn is a perfect truck that is worth my money. Will keep on driving my beater until something changes. No RAM for me this year for sure. :(

So, don't be me. DON'T check it out unless your bank account says "no problem".

It's a great truck. I was in the same boat looking for a low mileage Gen4 for a couple of weeks. Researched the Gen 5 and it's a no brainer for a few thousand dollars more.

Test drive the Laramie Sport with the options you want, it may be enough and way lower than the 64k you've seen in the Longhorn.

I paid under $43,000 for a new Silverado 2500HD LT with the diesel engine and running boards and factory bed liner and tow mirrors in 2011 so it is very difficult for me to spend over $50,000 for a new 1/2 ton gas powered pickup with new problems.

The 5th gen has by far the finest interior I have ever seen!

You should really consider looking at the Sport or Limited. I bet you can walk out of the dealership under 50k with the 12" Nav, panoramic sun roof, led headlights, etc etc.

I much prefer Longhorn because of interior choices but they do seem to be unicorns. Seems like Limited are more popular. Crap, I don't want to start another thread "best incentives on 19' Limited" haha

The dealer I got my 17 at has them between 10k to 12k off. The deals right now don't seem as great as they should be, or have been.

I ordered mine back in May. The interior was a must have......an absolute must have, no debating or considering any other interior color for me. That saddle brown/black and all that real wood everywhere in the longhorn................yeah, heaven. Let me say it again.....that real wood ;)

Mine was $65k as built. After dealer discounts and the rebates I qualified for, it was $55K and I got a few thousand in equity from my 16 Sierra.

I see 1 or 2 limiteds around here...........saw about 4 bighorns and maybe 4 laramies. I haven't seen another longhorn yet. You're right ...seems to be a unicorn.

Sounds like what happened to me.

I ended up in a Longhorn 2 days later though. Ended up paying under 50 OTD.

I too went to go look at gen 4s figuring I'd get a crazy discount once the gen 5 hit. Then I looked at a 5 after hearing about the bigger backseat.

I now own a 19 bighorn and it's a damn good truck that I got at a ridiculous price. Couldn't be happier.

Back in August I went by the dealer to actually lay hands on one of the 2019's and take a close look. Like you I was in sticker shock and was about to leave when my wife saw something different at the end of the 2019 row. It was a 2018 Lone Star Silver Edition which has a lot of the Laramie items inside. It also has the larger back seat area, at least compared to my 2012 that I traded in on it. The interior is also much more comfortable. It was white and lots of chrome(not my favorite combination) but the dealer really wanted to move this unit so he literally started throwing money at me until he made a deal that was by far the best I had ever done in the last 4 new rams I bought. I have really grown to like the white/chrome paint scheme. IMG_4937.JPG IMG_4939.JPG

The 19's are definitely a step up in quality from the gen 4's, especially regarding the interior, but that price is absolutely ridiculous! I'll do what I always do and wait a couple years and get one 6-12 months old with 5-10k miles for 20k less.

Just as a suggestion, you might consider leasing it, payment will be less and after 3 years buy it. You could be behind the wheel after all.

I wasn't even going to trade my 2014 Ram 1500, but I test drove a '19 and that was it. Smoother, quieter, and a lot more comfortable. Ended up ordering a 2wd Laramie Quad Cab with the Mountain Brown interior and out the door ay $43,700.

As another poster remarked, as long as they are plentiful and there are big incentives on 2018s, 2019 prices are going to remain high.

Regards,
Dusty

2019 Ram 1500 Laramie Quad Cab 2WD, 5.7 Hemi, 8HP75, 3.21 axle, factory dual exhaust, 18” wheels. Now at: 004204 miles.

In regards to your first post..I dont think thats fair of you to view the Gen4 like that. That is with anything in life. Go to another country, home seems boring, stay in a 5 star hotel, house seems lackluster, sit in a vehicle you cant afford, ones you can afford arent as intriguing. Its life. There will always be a bigger and better thing that you wish you could have but cant and theres no point to say 'wow what I have sucks now', its just about being appreciative of what you do have!

If you get that discount that quick with that low of mileage....I'll buy another!

The key to this is that in the original post he said that he doesn't currently have either one... He is making the choice to wait for the bigger, better, newer thing, which is perfectly fair.
