well today the wife and I traded our 14 2500 MegaCab 6.4 with 46k miles on it in for a New 18 1500,5.7/8speed/392”s/RamBox crew cab.

I Bought that truck New for 39k otd, traded it in and got 33k.
The 18 Msrp was 51k, I put zero down except for my trade and I walked out of there with 2.9% apr financing a total of 35k. Got a 5 year service contract and Max Care Lifetime warranty.
I’m in a work truck 5 to 6 days a week, wife wants a newer ish grand Cherokee so we wanted to drop our monthly payments by 200$ and we where able to do that. I will say this, this little thing is peppy as hell. Now I just got to start moding it. Looks like I will be in the half ton section more than the 3/4 ton section now.
I came to realize today that dealers are deffinetly getting kick backs from the banks on higher APR”s if the dealer can push it on the seller. I have over 800 credit score and they first came back with 4.9%apr and tried to sell me the truck for 45k. I was like it’s on the internet for 37k.. so they got the price adjusted, and it only took like 3 hours to get them to an apr I deemed acceptable. But god I hate buying cars... what a pain in the ass it was.

51k list for the new truck and got 33k in trade value means $18k difference. A max care lifetime with 100 deductible is about $3k so the total is $21k. I will assume taxes and prep and other BS is 10% or $2.1k which equals $23.1K to finance. How did you loose $12k as you are saying you financed $35k.

But you also say the truck was advertised at $37k. So thats a $4k difference plus max care $3k or $7k plus tax. Am I missing something? Also why would you finance a service contract oil changes and tire rotations are not that much money and FCA has specials all the time that you can purchase a few at a time.

I don't want to be a Debbie Downer, but the math seems like you really got screwed by this dealer.

Just because he got 33K for his truck doesn’t mean He put 33K towards trade. He may of had a lien against old truck.

I owed 23k on my old truck.

And yes financing the max care and service contract is foolish, but I really didn’t want to put cash down. I don’t mind paying for peace of mind.

This wasn’t an upgrade for me, but a way to lower my payments. I looked at refinancing my 6.4, but I would of paid 7k more in interest. So I said F it- let’s trade it in. I am happy with my decision.
