Ok guys I need to replace my stock muffler.I'm going to go with the magnaflow just not sure which one 22" oval or the 24" oval. I use the truck for towing a 28' travel trailer and need something not to annoying the wife all ready complains about the noise from the K&N cold air intake.

Thanks

I put a 22" Magnaflow on my truck and it's not too loud... but still a little louder than I wanted it. I would say go with a longer one.

I have a 5.7 with the 24" muffler dumped at the rear axle- gives a nice rumble with the extra sound pointed at the ground (just loud enough to set off a car alarm at start-up) but little problem with drone while driving or towing. For a daily driver/family ride it's a nice balance for me

I'm going out the stock location with it. Stupid question when you say 22" or 24" is that the body or over all the longest one I see is 24" body

I think you will like the 24" - Part #12279. This is the 5x8" oval with a 24" body and 30" overall length. This will be the quietest of the Magnaflow mufflers. It will give a deeper tone, but wont be loud enough to cause any drone in the cab of the truck.

Thank you that's the one I was thinking. I hope it's better than the soft ball size hole I blow out towing home Monday lol.

Why not just run a 2 in 2 out and forget the whole y-pipe? Not enough back pressure?

Your exhaust goes from both cats and then merges together into a y-pipe. This setup from the factory is very restrictive. Most guys replace just that merge pipe with the Magnaflow Y-pipe Part #10778. This is a much better flowing unit. It is not 1 of those necessary mods, but for only $30, it is tough to beat.

You can do this if you like, you will lose a little backpressure, but that's really not a big deal. There's other ways you can make this up, and especially if you have a custom tune, you can deal with it. Also i've noticed dual 3" inlet 3" outlet mufflers are a bit harder to find. Two singles would be easy, as well as single in dual out, but a lot of the outlets ive seen are only 2.5

If you lost the Y-pipe I would definitley get the true-X design. I used to have 2 SI/S0 flowmasters (came with the truck) and replce that with a DI/DO 18" magnaflow and I got all my low end back. I know you dont want the 18"
