Considering replacing my 2014 1500 Big Horn with a 2500 for the extra towing capacity (10300 vs 14000?)
Wonderered if you all would take a look and give me your thoughts.
Out the door price is $58K. Thanks for your opinions:

Nice looking pickup, well optioned, low miles, appears to be spotless. My question would be, what does this exact truck cost brand new? Is the difference enough to be worth buying used and almost out of warranty or what is the cost of a Mopar extended warranty on this truck.

Well optioned, looks pretty. What tranny is in the truck? 8 speed or 6 speed? One would think as a 20, may be an 8 speed? Price point seems a lil high, but really depends upon your area, availability and what you are willing to pay.

Just posting some pics/info for comparison.

Also what Dean said. Now I am in a truck heavy state, so there are numerous places to look, and a myriad of choices. But also be aware, they are talking the used vehicle market gonna drop like a rock this year, and dealers are trying to sell inventory at inflated prices, vs what they paid, but this is just my opinions and a lot of posted stuff. Choose wisely, but in the end your choice, what you can afford/willing to pay also.

Nice looking truck, but I agree with the sentiment of new with warranty vs 3yo and virtually no warranty.

So, my Brother just took delivery of his new 2023 Black Edition Ridgeline (I know, I feel for him too...lol) as his 2006 Ridgeline finally died. He was looking at the dealerships and 2020/2021 Sport models with 50,000 to 70,000 Km's on them were on average $10K to $12K cheaper than a brand new one that's the Black Edition.

When you're looking long term and knowing that vehicles are not an investment that appreciates, and yet they charge like they are these days..lol.

Consider going new, if you can. The ownership experience will be better, and there's a fresh canvas to start on. With used vehicles, and if one is up on maintenance, you'll get tunes up, all fluids changed, etc. and that's just more cost to have someone else's trade in.

I just went thru the Ram website build process for a 2022 with the same options: $71,020.
That would be out of my comfort zone.

That is about 16,000 more tha nthe threee year old one. So I suggest you take that build sheet and get a quote from a few dealers on a truck with those specs. I know when I bought mine new, 2021 2500, I got it for about $14,000 less than the build and buy price that came up on the website. Even half that much difference would put the price of the new one pretty close to the used.

Thanks - i had no idea that was an option. I have printed out the build sheet and will start asking arouind, although probably not here in raleigh where I live as dealerships here tend to act like they are doing you a favor to let you buy their truck..

Depends on your dealer, but around me dealers will not haggle on heavy duty truck prices, or any truck prices really. You're paying sticker, and if you don't like it the next 10 people walking through the door will pay it.

I'd say $58k for that truck is maybe a couple grand too high. But it's not far off from retail for that truck. If you get them down to $55-56k it's a good deal. Just look at NADA used prices in your area. That's what the dealer is basing their pricing on.

As for warranty, call Stellantis and buy a factory Mopar extended warranty. Should be able to get 5 years unlimited miles for a couple grand.

I shopped about 9 dealers within 50 miles of me when I bought. There was a 12,000 price difference in the quotes. I emailed them a scan of the build sheet, without the final price info, and told them to send me back their best and final price on EXACTLY that build, as I was not into haggling. Told them right up front, best quote gets the deal and you don't get a second kick. Only 5 responded but it worked out very well. WAY easier than going into the dealership and playing stupid people games with the morons in sales.

I just got a new '22 Laramie back in late Jan and got $6K off the MSRP including dealer discounts and factory incentives. But Where I live the supply of new '22s seems to have pretty much dried up and '23s are MUCH more. Also the Rams seem to be priced quite a bit higher than equivalent Chevy's and GMC's. This may be because the GM fans are waiting for the '24s now coming out. Also the '20 will probably still have at least two years of its 5 year, 60K miles power train warranty and you could buy a mopar warranty package and still come out at a lot less money than buying new. Of course I bought new but I really like my bright shiny toys ;)

The used vehicle market has some pressure again and wholesale prices rose about 4% last month. There appears to be some upward pressure due to factors such as the still continuing chip shortage that should abate later this year. But also, remember new car sales plummeted for a couple years so the availability of used cars will reflect that lack of new inventory entering service in the recent past.

This price seems a little high, you could try to negotiate, but determine exactly the options you must have and see if you can negotiate a new truck to near the same cost. Good luck.

also..one poster said go online and look up the payload but I think that vin payload look-up has been taken down. I have been seriously shopping 2500's lately and have not been able to check payload on any like I could not too long ago. I actually drove 40 miles to see a '22 dsl laramie that was a great deal but had only 1840# payload..not enough for the 5er...could have saved that drive if able to check that out online.

Don't even bother looking at diesel 2500's if payload is a concern. 1800-2100 is about what you can expect depending on trim/options. Where the 6.4's will get you 2900-3100.

Or look at 3500's with diesel. If I had a 5th wheel to tow, I would not look at any 2500 personally. Sure, the 2500 will haul more than the govt mandated rating. But I'd want to be legal.

Depends on the 5th wheel. Plenty in the 10-12k weight range that will come in around 2300-2400 lbs of pin weight that a 6.4 2500 can easily pull. That's about the max I'd go on a 2500 though.

That doesn't stop idiots from yanking a 16k+ 5ver with their 3/4 tons.
