Last week my check engine light went on and I brought my 2016 Bighorn to my dealer. They told me it was an active code and it was the MDS solenoid and to repair it they want over $800. The part had to be ordered so I made an appointment for next week. After driving it I honestly cannot tell any difference the truck runs fine the only thing is it looks like I'm getting a little less miles per gallon.
Is there a way to disable the MDS system and turn off my engine light or do you think it would be worth it to get an extra mile per gallon? I'm just so disappointed this is the most I've ever spent on a vehicle and had nothing but good luck with my previous two Ram trucks all over a solenoid on the stupid MDS system.
Thanks in advance for any advice this is sure a pretty cool forum!!

MDS is honestly a gimmick really doesn’t improve MPG enough to be worthy. You can press gear +/- buttons and manually select 8th gear. That will keep your truck in 8 cylinder mode and prevent MDS from kicking in.

It is a common issue involving our trucks and MDS has been the big suspect in wiping out camshafts too

Thank you!!! That's kind of what I thought also. I have been putting it in 8-cylinder mode by shifting manually to +8. But driving around with that engine light on is going to drive me crazy....

Just put black electrical tape over the engine light and pretend it’s not there :p

A DiabloSport Tuner can disable it and will cost you less than $400 and you can do a lot more with it include increasing your gas mileage and throttle response as well.

Try dis-connecting the battery for a bit,and then make sure you keep it in 8th on the dash.Disconnecting the battery should hopefully turn out the cel light, and if you make sure it's always in 8+ it might not turn the light back on,i won't go so far as saying it will keep the light out,but it might, lol
