so I just happen to come across a gas milage thread And I’m just wondering where are these numbers are coming I have a 2011 2500 with a 5.7 crew 8ft box 4:10 gears. i’m seeing pepople post numbers as high as 10 while towing and I can say that at between 65 and 70 miles an hour towing my camper im lucky to get six. during city just regular driving I’ve never gotten higher than 11.Also i’m wondering if part of the problem is to that when I am towing it’s rare that the trans hits fifth it’s the 545 and it never seems to go in fifth gear when towing

If you're towing something, I don't really think gas mileage matters...

it's understood that if you tow something, you will probably only tow "that thing" about 180 miles before you have to fill up...

One thing I have discovered is fuel mileage will increase at a higher RPM apposed to lugging at a low RPM. Fuel mileage will decrease when under load at higher RPM

At a higher rpm, your benefiting from the torque multiplication of being in a lower gear of the transmission. Also every engine is the most efficient when it's rpm is around the peak torque rating. Most people think your hurting an engine to wind out those rpms when actuality lugging an engine is more stressful.
