If you would have invested $4100 five years ago, with the Bull (stock) Market we've had, right now, you'd be sitting on $8000. But instead you have nothing.

Peace of mind comes from making wise decisions and money in reserve, not ******* it away on extended warranties.

Cool. Which stock can I get in on today @ $4100 that will make me $3900 for sure in five years? If I forgo the extended warranty, and I have a $6000 out of warranty repair in a month, will that stock give me an advance on the money I will make to pay for the repair?

The big word in that sentence was IF. That’s a hypothetical question.

Answer: Ticker symbols, either VOO or BRKB

NO sure thing like that in the stock market. For sure, 5 years ago, I would have had no idea VOO or BRKB would have gone up that much. And if somehow I DID know, I would have invested a lot more than $4100.

That's like saying if you invested $10,000 in Google in 1998, today you could buy RAM...not A RAM, but RAM the actual brand. Did anyone know back then?

I am being offered this Plan $3,290 for 4years/ 100,000 miles for my 2017 Ram 1500. (factory backed)
This vehicle is driven locally with long trips a couple times in the summer time , tows a two horse trailer once and a while.
What are your thoughts … is it worth it ?
$100 deductible etc.

IF you bought the truck new, this is a terrible deal - the 4 yr/100k miles would start from day 1 in other words 0 miles and what ever date you bought it.

IF you bought the truck used and this a used policy then it should start at the mileage/date that you bought the truck - so it might be a decent deal then.

So if say you bought it new in let's say October 2016, out of the 4 years you have already used up 3 years, so you would be paying $3200 for 1 year coverage.

They usually don't tell you this.

Actually, I bought the Maxcare lifetime for $2450 in 2016.

When a radio is $1500 and practically any trans part is north of $3000, I considered it an investment.
Mind you, I will keep the truck for quite a long time and use it either towing or fully loaded almost exclusively.
On top of that, I can do almost anything to it (other than trans) myself but didn't consider it to be worth my effort - as I am getting older and no garage - for $2450.

Even if after 15 yrs I never use it, I will consider it a wise investment. I have found over the years if you never want something to break you either A. have a spare laying around or B. have coverage :)

I will never understand spending thousands of dollars (usually payments) on something, and being perfectly happy with getting nothing in return. Sounds like money being thrown away. But, it makes you feel good, and you can post little smiley faces.

78% of people in America live paycheck to paycheck. 68% have less than $1000 in savings. I figure it's that mindset of those who can rationalize an extended warranty.

Like I said before, it's an emotional purchase made by broke people.

$2600 for Lifetime MaxCare. I keep my stuff a long time (last truck was 16 years old when I got rid of it). Ill have this one for at least 10 years, so $260/yr. A little over $12 per month.

Some people are living paycheck to paycheck, you're right. But those aren't (or at least shouldn't be) people buying a new truck. I can afford my truck, I can also afford the $12/month for the extra coverage.

Baloney, I'm 76 yo have everything I own paid for but still annually purchase health, vehicle, home and umbrella policies. I can afford to handle the loss of about any one of the above but life is about balancing risk vs cost.

I've never collected on my umbrella policy and never near enough on my vehicle or home policies to justify the cost on a straight dollar investment. It's only been the last few years the health care has been a good deal but I'm probably still behind but catching up fast.

My credit cards have never had an interest charge. So I ain't broke.

But I chose to give FCA about $9/wk calculating from the end of the 3 yr bumper-to-bumper time frame or $4/wk from today out 8 years to fix my truck if anything goes wrong. That's one morning coffee around here and if that makes me feel more comfortable then it's worth it.

There's nothing wrong with disagreeing with another's view point but your labels are becoming ponderous. The first lesson I learned in negotiations is when the other side starts calling you names you've won.

Again, you FEEL comfortable. That’s not an emotion? Post something again. You fortify my position

Bet on yourself. Keep your money in savings or investments.

Apparently you reading perception is not that good either. I AM COMFORTABLE!! With my family, life, career and investments. I've bet on myself my entire life that's why my retirement is comfortable. And it has revolved around making good education, investment and life event decisions.

If that makes your point then I'm also easy to confuse. Your concept of investing and saving is valid but to exclude other ways to conserve capital and minimize loss is myopic at best.

BIAC, I will now take my leave of this post and wish you the best in your life decisions.

Again with this BS, RLJ10X? Why do you insist on making these posts? This a Ram forum not the 4Runner forum.

Seems like trivial behavior for someone of his wealth and prestige, to keep coming on here talking to the commoners about vehicle warranty's. I mean, this guys GOT to be a billionaire right? The way he so matter or factly knows everything and has a crystal ball for sure thing investments, anything short of him being a billionaire would be a tremendous disappointment.

I keep waiting for his stock suggestions or emerging market briefs but alas, none have surfaced. Back to scratch offs and $2300 lifetime warranties for me...

I have listened to Dave Ramsey and agree with many of his beliefs - I completely disagree on his credit card stand though as it is ill advise for many people.

Guaranteed you also throw money away on insurance as does Dave Ramsey as he fully endorses life insurance plans for the vast majority of people. AND very very few people collect on said life insurance so it is all thrown away.

The maxcare policy I have is an insurance.

And like most all insurances, I hope not to have to use it but if I must it is there. Examples of said insurances are Life, Auto, Boat, AAA, AFLAC, Homeowners, health, etc.

How is insurance on a $50k depreciating investment that I personally intend to have for many years to come a bad option?

If I was given an option to pay $2450 up front and $100 per accident for life (or even 10 years) for mandatory auto insurance, I would sure as **** jump at that option!!!

And remember when you assume - 78% of people in America live paycheck to paycheck. 68% have less than $1000 in savings. I figure it's that mindset of those who can rationalize an extended warranty.
Assume and you think you know what somebody wants or needs, you’ll be wrong
When you ASSUME (ass u me) you make a ‘ass’ out of ‘u’ and ‘me’
