Hello everyone
What does everyone recommend for motor oil brand. I own a 2023 Ram 2500 diesel truck. I understand they recommend Rotella T-6 10-30 weight for Southern California areas . Is this good enough oil or should I make the extra expense and buy Amsoil brand ?
TIA

Your opening a can of worms, there's lots of opinions which oil to use, just about everyone will have their own.
Some people claim the specialty boutique oils are the only way to get the long life out of the engine. Then there are fleet vehicles that use bulk oil, are drove like rented miles and go the same distance.
Usually 5W-40 by T6, Super Blue, Delvac can be easily found and fairly inexpensive along with widely used by Cummins owners for years.

Used to be delvac and rotella were head a shoulders above the rest, but read up on ck-4 oils, the API made all shelf oils uniform. What used to set Amsoil apart was the interval, super high tbn that allows for longer interval, not really sure any of that is happening with diesel ck-4, have not looked into it. So bottom line, if it were me I would only run synthetic oil, no blends, if it doesn't say synthetic oil like t6 does, then it isn't synthetic. So much confusing with diesel oils, look for synthetic. Just a quick look, it is hard to think you can do better then t6 which is 71 bucks 3 gallons, I doubt you will find better or cheaper. I looked up Amsoil which is showing 1200ppm CA, which means API effected this formula. Amsoil SS is 43 a gallon with discount, so in the grand scheme of things it is six and a half one dozen of the other. I might go Amsoil if I was pushing the interval, but if you are under a 10k interval, I'd probably just keep doing what you are doing. With diesel you get more return on filtration then oil choice. Bypass, run a double, or bypass all in one, lots to consider there. If you do chose Amsoil, make damn sure it is a synthetic one, most of their oils are not.

Interesting, Amsoil has a full synthetic diesel oil for 28 bucks a gallon, haven't looked into it but on it's face looks like a winner. Makes the choice a lil harder, have fun with it. Look into filtration.

Rotella T-6 5w40 is good oil to use year round even in socal so long as your engine does not have high oil contamination if it does T-6 does not hold up all that well with high fuel in the oil contamination, this is based on UOA reports, I have used and do not recommend 10w30 oil, with in 300 miles of installing it my engine started having documented typewriter lifter noise that Ram still has no fix available for all the engines with this problem... BTW do not try to use 15w40 the roller lifters were not made to handle that heavy weight oil..
