Hey guys..

Got a birthday coming up so I was thinking about doing a muffler or exhaust on my truck. What would you guys suggest?

I'm looking for a quiet idle and cruising tone, but a decent rumble (not rappy) at WOT. I live in a big neighborhood that discourages loud vehicles, hence the quiet idle and cruising tones. I would love to free up the 5.7 on the highway a little.

Open to any and all suggestions.

Thanks!

Magnaflow tends to get the "not crazy unless you want it" vote. Flowmasters 50HD option is also along those lines.

18" or 22" MagnaFlow

the 14" may be a little much for your neighborhood

I'd say Magnaflow as well. Pretty quiet when cruising but when ya get on it you can tell there's something goin' on under the hood! :)

That's exactly what I'm looking for. Would replacing the muffler and having the rest stock do anything for me? Or should I wait until I can afford a whole exhaust system?

5 hp maybe. 10 with a good full catback. 20ish with longtubes and free flowing cats. A few more with a tuner. Bolt ons have their limits. The factory equipment isn't awful, but mods multiply when you plan it out.

Word. I have a tuner now, and plan LTs and a Y pipe in the future.

Something else that often gets left out is that your exhaust can have a big impact on where your powerband is in the RPM range. Typically speaking, when you open things up, you shift the powerband upward so you get a higher maximum, but can lose some low end if its too open. An electric cutout for instance is very open, but you lose the scavenging effect in the 1000-2000 rpm zone. If you keep your foot out of it, gas mileage is negligible, but the temptation to rev it higher, especially with a cool sound, can trump the mpg. That's my experience anyway.

Please dont get the Flowmaster 50HD. Ive had one for a few years and its terrible. Dont get me wrong, in a tunnel windows down and foot to the floor it sound amazing, but sitting at highway speeds is just dreary. I have a QCLB which puts the muffler back just a little more under the bed and the drone is still awful. Either a magnaflow or, what im looking at, a carven. Both seem more like what youre looking for
