So I know very little about adding a aftermarket muffler besides knowing what sound I want. I have decided I want a Borla muffler but I don't know what is the ideal size for my Ram. I have a 14 Big Horn 1500. Also if I should know anything else feel free to educate me.

Do you have the dual exhaust out the back? If so, you'll need a 1 in/Dual out muffler like this one...

Borla 40670 Borla Turbo Series Mufflers - Free Shipping on All Orders @ JEGS

I forget the exact size of the stock I-Pipe, I think it's 3" but not to sure. Someone can confirm this or correct me. The tail pipes out the back are 2.25" in size. So that muffler in the link would work perfectly if the I-Pipe is 3". Idk the differences in all the Borla mufflers so may look in to that before actually choosing the one in the link. Im just using it for reference as to what the 1 in/dual out looks like. You may also need to add some pipe incase it's smaller in length than the stock one but any good/decent exhaust shop can do that for you.

If you don't have the dual exhaust, then you should just need a centered 1 in/1 out type muffler.

Ive ran a Borla Pro XS before and they sound nice and clean. Currently running a magnaflow muffler and its 3" in but I think mine is 2x 2.5" out. I could be wrong though.

you need a single 3 inch inlet and dual 2.25/2.5 inch outlet.

The idea is the smaller the muffler. The louder it is but it also depends on the brand. My Dynomax bullets aren't very loud and they are about 12" to 16" long.

Leave the resonators on. If it's not loud enough to you. Then remove those.

Ive read here from some posts that chambered mufflers give you a throaty sound but they drone depending on the case size. Im running an aero exhaust 3030xl on mine, it sounds deep but lacks the throatiness im looking for.. :) im thinking on doing the 50HD.

Removing the resonator doesn't just make it louder, it gives it a better sound.

Just about every member of RF seems to have a different opionion of what a good exhaust sound is and what the right exhaust set-up should be.
A couple of things to remember:
1) Your OEM exhaust piping is stainless steel
2) The factory muffler is huge so you will need to add pipe for an after market repleacement
3) Aluminized steel is cheaper than stainless, so that's what a lot of muffler shops will try to rip you off with (increases their profit margin).
4) You can weld in a replacement (see note about adding pipe above) or you can buy a fully assembled DIY bolt on replacement with all the stainless piping you need.

In the end, its your truck, do it your way.

And drone is really a personal opinion. 2 people with the same exhaust 1 will say it drones like hell on the highway and the other tell tell you how much they love it!

for a throaty "horsepower" sound I don't think you can beat a Magnaflow 14"
