An update to mine that popping seems to be tapering off the more miles gets put on it. today I did not hear it once so maybe it just had to be broken in good and get oils burned out of it its sounding really mean now I like it. still no drone and in 6th gear tone barely there Yeah I could go on a trip and still carry on conversions and not have to readjust radio. Oh and mine still runs cats and manifolds

Sounds just like a break in period. Getting everything inside ready to operate as it should. With cheryl bombs or glass packs. Their is a break in time as well. The tone changes after they have been used for a while. Glad you are happy and didn't have to redo anything.

I am currently running the Borla Pro XS. It has a nice tone, but it has what I call the glass pack popping sound; especially at moderated throttle and lower rpm. I much prefer a more steady tone across the board - if that makes sense. I have three chamber Flowmasters on my Impala which are perfect. But that's true dual exhaust. Not sure if the single muffler on the Ram would sound the same.
Thanks, Scott

I run straight pipes only because I love the sound of my 5 inch pipe.

I put a Corsa cat back exhaust on my 19 Bighorn with the 5.7 HEMI....it sounds great...no big difference in sound when MDS is on a on...and no drone at all at cruising speed.....I purchased directly from Corsa for about $1400.....check out the video

I have the outlaw flowmaster with a high flow K&N intake. No cabin drone and it sounds like a Nascar when you get on it.

Check out Carven Competitor series ....

I also put the Carven Competitor on mine and I must say the overall sound is great! There is no drone in the cab and can have a conversation with no issues at freeway speeds. I was concerned when I had them installed that they were going to be too loud (after reading post in here) but honestly I wish I had removed my resonators to give it just a bit more. Over all highly recommended. Nick@GotExhaust was a great help in talking through it and making my decision a lot easier.

I went the "cheap" route and had a local shop cut out the factory muffler and install a Flowmaster 40-series, retaining the original tail pipes with factory resonators. Overall I'm quite pleased with the volume, tone and cost of the setup. It is loud enough to be heard when I want to be heard and mellow enough to not intrude upon conversation at road and highway speeds. Ran me $150 and I was out the door an hour and a half later. Best investment in the truck I've made thus far.

The trend with exhaust setups today seems to favor waking the whole block vs something more subtle... and that's just not my style.

Should have been more specific. JBA longtubes, NO cats, Borla muffler and no resonators.

This is your issue.... not the muffler. I have the borla pro XS but its a stock configuration with no popping or decel noise/resonance. You need to look at your setup and realize you have nothing to stop the popping because you've removed everything that would block it. You have a free flowing exhaust which is essentially open pipe from the head to the tip. Any type of chambered muffler in my experience will cause more popping. Your best bet is to look into a more restrictive muffler like a turbo style or even put some high flow cats on it. Unless your putting out some serious HP and need the flow your going to be chasing your tail on your setup bc you have designed it to pop lol. I do not believe going from a single to a true dual will help as you still have nothing to absorb the sound.... On decel is going to be particularly hard.

Man, I'd love to see a pic of that install. Was trying to figure out how to run true duals, but the fuel tank seems to be the hindrance.

I did the dual in and dual out muffler also on my ram, it had already been turned into true duals. They run the pipes down th same side, passenger side. Cutting the y-pipe and configuring extension pipes back to flow master 40 series. Picture is taken from online as reference to what mine looks like.

heres my custom true dual set up. 2.5" x pipe and 2.5" single chambers with the stock dual rear exhaust tips.
Really amazing sound quality 11/10 better than I was expecting but only 8 or 9 out of 10 for the loudness. my buddy has a borla atak on his 5.0 f150 and its loud loud lol
my set up is surprisingly quiet on the highway but really howls in town. downshift decels are straight up god mode especially if you have some walls or tightly spaced buildings

Do you have any sound clips of your setup? I'd really like to go true duals but havent heard any mufflers I really like yet.
