Through the years I had welded from the cats back which was great for no leaks, but a PITA if you wanted to drop the exhaust to do a bunch of work. My last 2 setups have been slip fit for the most part and my current one is complete slip fit and makes removing it a breeze.

Before putting on the 3 inch band clamps doing a test fit

Best part is got the stock pipe opened just a hair to slip on the bullet so from the back looks 100% stock even with the resonator. The pipe has been cleaned and painted black now.

We were suppposed to put it on last Saturday, but his wife had other plans for him, so he said tomorrow when I get off work.

The Y is gonna require pipe and bending also.

It will go fine. Does he have an expander also? If not you can just do butt-welds instead of an overlap weld. The Magnaflow Y will prob push back the rest of the exhaust some to if it was done like my old setup.

The only leak I have right now is at the manifold on the driver's side...starting to annoy me...I have new gaskets on hand though.

Yup! I fix it, and it goes away for a week. I just banged on it for a few minutes this morning and its almost all gone, my exhaust overpowers it but driving by a wall I can kinda hear it but I can deal with it. But it'll be back in a week and I'll crawl under there again and take my sledge to it.

I have kind of gone the other direction. When I first started modding my truck I always would clamp it. But the clamps always ended up leaking. Now I weld everything. No more leaks and if I need to get the exhaust out for some reason (like when I swap converters again soon) I just cut it off then weld it again when I am done.

Where you using the crappy clamps like pacesetter sell or wide stainless steel clamps? Knock on wood I havend had leaks with the 3" SS clamps with the 2 bolt hookup for the past 2 years. The only issue I have had with the clamps like that were in the first elbow on the driver side because of the bend so thats my only welded section.

Three inch duel bolt ss every time. Always had a small leak. I couldn't drive around with my truck sounding like that.
