When I got this truck, I had no real intentions of changing the exhaust at all. I'm still on the fence... I may have an exhaust in my sights, now.

Mufflex DOD18M with 5" tips

How are these exhausts? Reviewed well on Amazon, although there are only 12 reviews.

I'm concerned with drone. Not all the time, as I usually will be unloaded and not towing. But when I do load up the 27' camper and decide to head 4 hours out, am I going to want to plug my ears? Will the wife want to kill me? Will the 2 year old in the back become a crank-fest?

Thoughts?

They are a bit drony when MDS comes on and they are a lot louder compared to the stock mufflers.

To avoid some of the drone, I'd recommend adding resonators to the tailpipes or find a catback system that has resonators.

Another solution might be simply replacing the stock mufflers with something else (Magnaflow, Corsa, Walker, Flowmaster) and leave the rest of the system stock. That's worked well for me in the past.

I have mufflex 18" direct replacement and carvin 5" tips. Louder than stock for sure, absolutely love wot sound. I also seldome drive with mds on so no noticeable drone to me just louder. I haven't towed and probably wont so cant say to that. I started with tips, more rumble and tone, added mufflex and for me its perfect for the hemi. I am really glad i didnt get a 14"....been there, done that!!

Thanks. Again, I had no real intentions on doing this... but someone is offering this system in trade for my mirrors. 90% of the time, I'll be unloaded. I also typically disable the MDS when I drive; I just don't like the lag. So I'm not overly concerned with the MDS drone. I just don't want something obnoxious when towing the few times a year I will be towing.

I might do the swap.... :\

I just installed the Mufflex 18 and love it. Its only been a couple days but so far No drone. I turn MDS off usually when driving. It's not real loud and sounds great. I had a muffler delete and and it was obnoxious on acceleration. That got old real quick. It was louder than my Roush Mustang.

I was thinking about the 24m. You think it'll be significant quieter than the 18m?

I have one. Love it. I had it on my 11 ram. Took it off before trade in and still currently have it on my 14. It has held up very well.

I've read that the pipes on the outlet side gets rusted easily. Is it true for yours?

Yeah, the guy sent me this pic... says its stainless and only a year old. I know NJ winters are harsh... but this seems excessive. Not sure its worth it, to be honest.

That exhaust looks pretty rough for a year old. I live in Northern indiana, our winters are snowy where I'm at and municipalities salt the roads very heavy. My truck is 4 years old and my exhaust does not look like that at all.

I have the mufflex dod18m and I love the sound. I have had it for 3 yrs this spring.I don't tow with my truck and I always drive with MDS shut off so I can't give you any input on drone. I have taken my truck on several long trips and cruising down the highway it's pretty quiet still. It's a little louder than stock when cruising.

Mine has not rusted much at all. Just the typical discolored from the heat

24" has plenty of good noise and no real downside drone (IMHO). I've heard lots of complaints about 14" and a few about the 18."

There appears to be a funny inverse relationship to length--normally longer is better: except in mufflers?

That sure looks like stock piping--what year?. The Magnaflow to the right looks fine, and the pipe doesn't look as bad as the stock pipe at all. It's reasonably thick as well.

I'm waiting on more pics of the muffler itself. I'm considering trading the set of chrome mirrors I have listed here for the muffler, if its not that bad of shape. I would be keeping everything else stock, including my pipes/tips.
