My truck just hit 75k miles. And it seems like all the electronics associated with my uConnect 8.4 are going to ****.

1) I have the blue screen of death for my backup camera. Checked all connections which were good. No idea what the problem is.
2) outside temperature on my uConnect constantly reads -40f. No clue how to fix.
3) my remote start works but the truck will only stay running for about 10 seconds then shuts off (yes I have gas).
4) the modem in my uConnect is fried. I had a RAM tech try to remote into it while I was on the phone with her. She said it was dead and I need a new one.

Is the RAM uConnect technology just garbage? Any suggestions for fixes?

I tried disconnecting the positive and negative on the battery. Let it sit for 20 minutes. Reconnected. Didn’t fix anything.

Thanks.

I hate to hear of this for you Sir .

When I bought my 14 I had the 5yr / 100,000 mile bumper to bumper and the dealership through in a 10yr warranty on all electronics for free !
Check your original contract and see if your 14 came with this 10yr electronics warranty . If so then take it to the dealer and demand all electronics are fixed under warranty [emoji106]

Electronics do go out. The head unit could be causing all the issues your experiencing. Replacing it could fix all the problems you’re having.

Hawki1cr...

Well, just read this tonight 7/16 as I am thinking about starting a new thread for my problems...
also 2014 with just shy of 81,000 miles

I wrote this up, BELOW, about my uconnect problems and will let you read it to see if there is anything in common with your unit...

I noticed this warning 5-6 weeks ago...

Vehicle Phone Requires service.
Please contact your dealer. Upper left corner of screen says 9-1-1
SEE photo attachment below

All of a sudden about 5-6 weeks ago, this error appeared randomly while driving for a few seconds, then would disappear without me doing anything. At the time I thought it was some sort of an update that caused it, as I had my RAM into dealer for header bolt problem a couple of weeks before that.

About a month ago, after first AC necessary day of the season, after RAM sitting overnight, the radio did not turn on immeadiately on startup like it always did before and the LED's that light up on the console below the screen if you push AC, or Recirculate would not turn on. I also sniffed a whiff of smoke. Opened the hood to check fuses, and then I stuck my head inside and the radio was working along with the LED lights indicating the AC was on. I drove off...

Over the next 3 weeks, about 30% of the time the radio screen and AC LEDs would work fine right after startup, but 70% of the time it would take 1 to 3 minutes for the 8.4 radio screen to fire up. After it did then everything, radio, AC controls worked fine for the duration of the drive.

Two weeks ago I took off the glove box and sniffed for a whiff of smoke... nothing. Looking at youtube videos I was convinced that it might be the HVAC module on the right door jamb.

I ordered and installed a new updated part# for that HVAC, but nothing changed.

Now I put these two incidents together, the ERROR MSG onscreen and my delayed radio startup response together... as I now read this thread below...

Oh, and yes I did notice that the compass headings (which I only noticed when drivng due SOUTH on the interstate), would sometimes be off as far as indicated direction... then would correct themsleves for a few minutes, then go haywire (usually off by 180 degrees) again.

Alternatives to this radio are very expensive... I started tonight to look at repair of the 8.4 uconnect using NAVREPAIR dot COM

At this time I am going to be calling NavRepair in the morning and inquire about getting my radio serviced.

I hope all of this makes some sense to you.

Hey, after more research here and calling navrepair dot com it appears there is a commom failure with these radios with or without the nav feature activated. Mine is NOT activated, but David at navrepair said that the error msg with the 9-1-1 in the upper left corner is indicitive of the GPS module failing. Complete info about this can be found at this page...
https://navrepair.com/collections/r...ducts/ra3-ra4-vp3-vp4-sierra-wireless-failure

I also noticed when driving interstates that the compass would be off by 180 degrees, intermittantly, which is also an indicator that this GPS feature is out and needs to be repaired, because a satalitte fix was unavailable.

I am going to get my radio to them ASAP, and pay the $300 plus shipping. I will report back.

We certainly understand your frustration, Hawki1cr. We suggest having your dealer inspect this concern if you have not done so already. We are also available via private message if you would like any additional assistance during that process.

Why not just put that $300 towards a better radio?

And what would you suggest?

I really had no problem with the properties of the 8.4 unit, and touch screen exact replacements were in the $1500+ range. I really hate dealing with adapters and loss of any functuinality the stock radio gave me.

I'm just an old guy and can live without Sirous, Navigation, etc... USB and blutooth ports into the radio is fine with me.

If I can get my original 8.4 back for $300 + shipping I will be very happy.

I just replaced my radio with 5a6f582095b5e69cd6b368c4c74f7a9b.jpg
It not only does everything that the oem radio did but far exceeded it. The things the oem radio did the pioneer radio does better.

If all you paid was $700 with no adapters needed I think you did great... however that is not an 8.4 screen size, I don't believe. And I might be wrong but my Big Horn model also puts the HVAC controls onscreen which I don't believe the smaller screens do, not that the feature is any big deal... but from what I read the dash controls are different for the two different screen sizes... AGAIN, I may be wrong about that.

Anyway thanks for learnin me...

Follow-up...

Today, one week after I sent my 8.4 radio to navrepair dot com, I got it back ($299) charge plus shipping two ways. Plugged it in and the radio turns on immediately, as it always had until it broke. As I mentioned in post #4, the radio was intermittantly givng me a 9-1-1 error msg with instructions to take to dealer for service. And my compass headings were screwed up. The radio and HVAC controls on dash would take from 1 to 3 + minutes to come on after starting RAM. Then everything worked as it should except for random error msg and compass headings. I was told by navrepair tech, that even though I had not paid for the NAV service, there was still a NAV device in the 8.4 radio that was not turned on yet still gave me the compass functionality. That module was not working giving me the problems I described earlier. The module was either fixed or repaired and all is good now. I was told that if I did pay for NAV service, it would have showed me that I was in Texas somewhere.

I hope this helps someone...
