Hey guys. I know this has probably been asked before but I couldn't find an answer anywhere. I've got a '12 Express with the RES radio without Uconnect and want to install one of the Mygig units. My question is can I have Ipod integration with the Mygig without having the Uconnect? Reading the FAQ's here says I would have to install the uconnect but I really don't want to spend $800+ to put the unit in. Can my music off Itunes be downloaded directly on to the hard drive? I got the impression that you can't when I read the manual for the Mygig.

I know a bunch of you will say to go aftermarket but I really don't like the look of any of the aftermarket units out there. So please don't just say to buy aftermarket. Thanks!

Yea, it has a USB port on the front but I don't want a bunch of cords draped all over the place. I had the integration in my 08 and loved it and really hope to be able to put it in this new truck without spending a ton.

One of the big reasons I added the Uconnect module to my 130 RES was to get Ipod integration. It isn't $800 though. I think I paid $214 for the Uconnect module and around $35 for the USB interface that goes into the glove box. It's another 50-100 for the dealer to activate it, my I got it done for free since The dealer was already flashing the computer for a software recall.

My favorite part of the uconnect operation with my Ipod touch is I can use the voice control to tell it what song or artist to play!! Love that feature!

Thanks. Yea, I know the Uconnect isn't $800 but getting the mygig and uconnect together will be close to that. I just really don't want to spend that much.

OK, if you were to upgrade to the 430 or 430n, you need to purchase the Uconnect module and the ipod cable in order to get ipod integration. If you purchase a 730 RHR, the Uconnect feature is built into the radio itself so all you'll need is the ipod cable and the $30 mic cable. The mygig radios will not play ACC files (they will play through ipod). Make sure the mygig you purchase is high speed canbus.

I think the ipod thing is overrated. Cant you just use your phone jack, or load your music on your Mygig. If the files aren't correct, just download a converter off the internet.

Yea. I think you can now do it with iTunes. If not you can find free converters

Excellent! I'll do some research on that and maybe go ahead and pull the trigger on the new headunit. Thanks!
