I got my Vararam installed last night. I went with the standard textured lid since I'm not going to be painting it. Installation wasn't too bad. One mod I had to make to the intake was flipping the bolts that held the lower lip on. The threads were digging into the A/C condenser. Once I flipped them I put some 3M tape over the heads just in case, but they don't contact the condenser anymore. I was also worried about it not sealing against the hood since the 2500 hoods are taller, but it seals up all the way around. I also tucked the wire loom behind the intake so it didn't disrupt airflow. And finally, I moved the relay that was attached to the horn over to the side to get it out of the way. Not sure what it's for...

Overall I am happy with it. Like others have said it's a little flimsy when the hood is opened, but once it's closed it's fine. Drove a couple miles last night to pick up dinner and honestly didn't notice anything, but I didn't unhook the battery and only drove about 3 miles so the computer hasn't had a chance to re-learn anything. I'll get it out on the highway this weekend and see what it will do...

Man I love your truck. Question though. How does the powder coating on the bumpers hold up under driving conditions? Is it pretty durable with rock chips and stuff?

Thanks!

The powder coat is supposed to be pretty durable. It's still going to scratch and chip, but not nearly as easy as paint would (from what the powder coater told me). I would say it's somewhere in between paint and line-x, maybe a little closer to the paint side.

I haven't put hardly any miles on it since I got them done, so they of course look brand new still. I'm interested in seeing how they look in 6 months.

And just to give an expense update, if you don't include the stuff that I re-installed from my 2010, I have only spent a about $1900 on this truck. Not bad at all if you ask me! My biggest expense was the RollBak bed cover at $840...

I would love to do a linex/rhino liner on my bumpers but I want it to be glossy and match the paint.

Man your truck looks great. Love how the bumpers match sides exactly. Great job and great pics.

I thought about line-x but went with powder coating to match. Unless you have your rockers line-xed, it just won't look right...

Thanks! I was surprised at the color match myself. It's dead on! I truly don't understand why the power wagons don't come from the factory with black bumpers and a color matched grille...

It's not as big of a slope as it looks like in the pics. It's not going anywhere...
