Long time watcher, first time poster.

I need some opinions! I am in the process of purchasing a new RAM pickup truck. There are two I am interested in - both black 1500 Classic Express.

  1. 2020 1500 Classic Express (new)
    1. HEMI V8
    2. 20" chrome wheels
    3. Running boards
    4. Spray-in bed liner
    5. Cloth seats
    6. Carpet
    7. Trailer brake controller
  2. 2021 1500 Classic Express (new)
    1. V6
    2. 17" aluminum wheels
    3. vinyl seats
    4. vinyl flooring
    5. 8.4 inch Uconnect
    6. 7 inch instrument cluster
    7. 4x4
I put in BOLD my must haves! I think it is a no brainer for me to go with the 2020 BUT is it possible to replace the 8.4 inch monitor and 7 inch instrument cluster? Also, not sure of the benefits between the V8 and the V6 WITH 4x4.

Any help is appreciated!

Those a pretty different setups. I would say go with the Hemi for better resale value and more power. And yes you can swap in the 8.4 and 7in cluster.

Can you live without the 4x4?

I can absolutely do without the 4X4. This will be used to travel to and from work in Houston.

The only questions that i would have is:

Classic 4th Gen body style or 5th Gen
&
When do you need to buy it by, datewise

Do you need it before say; January ?

Classic 4th general body style. Not in a rush per se to purchase, but willing to buy right now if all (or most of) the options are available at a good price. I believe both trucks are $34,000 USD right now.

The main reason that i brought it up, is because the new car market is a mess right now.
Prices are high right now & that is indirectly because of Covid

Auto manufacturers thought that because everyone was Confined to home, except to buy groceries. That no one was going to be buying new vehicles & did not pre order any computer chips.
Computer chips are needed run just about everything electronic & they all need to be programmed.

The companies that manufacture the computer chips did not have orders, so they made fancier chips for phones, tvs, computers & they had commitments to build more.
So when the auto manufacturers ordered Chips by the car load, no chip company had the ability to ramp up production.

I think prices will drop back down by January & i think that you will begin seeing more brand new Rams on the dealership sales lot in January

Hi guys! Just wanted to give an update. Picked up this bad boy on Tuesday. I went with the HEMI and not the 4x4.

The only negative is the base head unit and EVIC. I will upgrade eventually and add leather seats. Unfortunately it won’t fit in my garage due to the mirror. I MAY replace those for the electronic folding ones later - but that all adds up!

Surprisingly, I would go with 2. you do get the 8.4 inch plus the cluster and its 4x4. that will help more than you think. at the end of the day if you spend a lot of time in the cab you'll want the 8.4 Uconnect. thats what I would do, both trucks sound great!
