Alright gentleman, I need some help here. I ran up on a good deal on some sport rims off of 2012 Ram. Everything I have read up on says that they will fit on my 2014. I know the studs and bolt pattern are the same between the two year models. The problem I am having lies with the damn TPMS sensors. I know they changed the sensors in 2014 to a new one. Everything I read says that I would have to put 2014 sensors in the 2012 rims. Well, the bottom of the valve stem is shaped different, so you cannot put the sensors on. I buy some 2014 valve stems and sensors to put in the 2012 wheels, the 2014 stems will not fit in the sport wheels. What gives? I have seen people do this swap before. I am overlooking some small, or what? Any advice or help would be appreciated.

call a reputable shop, as far as fitting, bolting up, yes, they will fit. I'm sure you can have the ones in there reprogrammed to your 2012 frequency.
At least I think so :D

So the actual sensor that goes inside the rim won't fit on the 2012 rims?

Does'nt make sesne why they won't work. I could see maybe one some aftermarket rims(even though today most work with TPMS) not working but the OEM should all be interchangeable.

The bottom of the valve stems on the 2012 Sport rims are flat on two sides, and rounded on the other two. This is the where the sensors attaches.

The bottom of the 2014 valve stems are square where the sensor attaches.

I tried to put the 2014 valve stems into the 2012 sport wheels, but the 2014 valve stem is about 1/8 of an inch of so larger in diameter, and it will not come through the rim. I even lubed them up with some wd40 and I felt like I was about to break the valve stem trying to pull it through.

I'm about to the point I just want to sell the sport rims and tires for what I have in them.

Get the proper sensors, that fit that rim and freq...will be totally worth it.
The wheels you sell will be worth more having TPMS in them anyway.

From what i understand, the 13 and 14 sensors run on the same frequency, but something else is different and my truck(2014) will not read the earlier sensors. I did read somewhere that someone went to the dealership and they did something to make it work, but the dealerships around here would want to charge for that. It's not worth another 100$ to me.

I see now looking at google images.

Did a little research.
What's so stupid is the the 2012 sensors work in many 2013/14/15 dodge cars but the 2013+ Rams use a different sensor. WTF!!

I don't really care about TPMS anyways. I run without mine in my 22s. I check my PSI every month or so.

Yeah, it is pretty crazy how they have it set up. Oh well, someone else will get a good deal on some sport rims and Goodyears. I wouldn't worry about having the TPMS sensor not in there if it was just me driving it, but the wife doesn't pay enough attention to not have it.

I have my stock 13' sensors in oem 14' rt wheels with no issues. Don't know if that helps though, as its reverse of what you need

I think I cam make it work. The 14 valve stem Is about an 1/8 of an inch larger than the 13. I'm gonna take a drill bit 1/16 larger than the 13 sensor and drill it out so the 14 valve stem and sensor will fit.

Well, I got it figured out. I was at my brother in laws shop yesterday fooling around with the rims. I put some tire grease on the valve stem, hooked the tool up to pull it through, put a piece of 2x4 on the edge of the rim to get some leverage. With the grease and leverage, the valve stem popped right in. Rims are on the truck and it looks so much better!

Hopefully this thread may help someone else putting some older wheels on a 13 + 4th Gen.
