Right now I am running no muffler and I've heard that no Muffler leads to low back pressure. When redoing an exhaust system should I start with the headers all the way back or just from the cat back? Would there be any performance increase if I replaced the headers as well? Hearing about the low back pressure leading to low torque gets me worried about towing I haven't towed anything since I took my muffler off so I am unsure about the low torque. Keep in mind I am all about fuel economy and trying to get the best milage possible. I have a cold air intake from K&N and yes I put a throttle body spacer in by word of mouth not by research...it did give a whistle that I like so I'm alright with it. Unsure if true dual exhaust is worth it or is just a fancy way to show you have horses....I am doing all this work myself.

Thanks.

Use a muffler. It can be a lighter, freer flowing unit than stock.

Headers are a nice addition but probably overkill unless you decide to do head and cam work. But if you are gonna do headers, start at that end first.

For most folks, a cat back is normally used. A true dual with a nice x-pipe will work well.

Id suggest a true dual with an x-pipe like Maddog said , but a single in dual out muffler is what im running and it works fine. To support what Maddog said, headers are nice if you plan on doing some more in depth engine work, but not a necessity.
I would suggest a high flow muffler if youre not looking for alot more back pressure. Magnaflow is usally the way to go, flowmasters generally arent although they do have some flow-thru styles. Believe is or not adding the little back pressure will help your mpgs a little, but its a truck with the aerodynamics of a brick, dont expect significant changes

Thanks for the replies. I know that mpgs arent goin to be great but im just seein what i can get out of it.

what are the pros and cons between a true dual, muffler with dual outlets and just a single pipe?

I have been looking at the magnaflow. one is just a single and the other is dual outlets (not true dual)...

for now ill just leave the headers and the cats alone...

True duals
Pros:its actually two exhausts!
Cons: it costs a little more

SIDO
Pros: its cheaper. A lot cheaper
Cons: its not a dual exhaust
Lol
Basically a true dual is the way to go when you pack power, but if youre keeping it close to stock, SIDOs are just fine and do the job

When I bought my '03 Ram 1500 4.7 a couple years back I noticed someone had put duals on it. But at the time I didn't know if they weren't true duals or not. So upon closer inspection I noticed they weren't true duals after all. As SFD213 stated he's running the single in dual out muffler. Which is the same on mine. And it sounds pretty nice too. I've had a few people say my Ram sounds pretty nice, including my mechanic I bring it to.
