Hey everyone, so yesterday I drove to True Value Hardware and when I left the store and came out to return home, I start my truck and put it into drive and nothing happens. I pushed on the gas pedal and it just revs and wouldn't move. I put it back in park, and back into drive and it just revs again for a couple of seconds and then lurched into gear finally. Ironically, it drove fine the rest of the evening and I even tested it in my driveway upon returning home. So, I thought maybe it was a one time glitch. Then, I wake up this morning to head to the grocery store, and low and behold it does it again and after revving it in drive for a couple of seconds, it jumps into gear again. Once I left the grocery store, it drove fine and when I got home, I again tested reverse and drive in my driveway, and it seemed fine. So, I have had these two isolated events two days in a row, but then it drives fine after the fact each day. I have called 4 local dealers and nobody has a clue what it could be. There are no lights on the dash, my seat belt was on and all doors closed. Anyone ever experience this and any idea what this could be? I am a little scared to drive it a long distance now because what if it won't go in gear? Also, because of the holiday weekend and busy schedules, no dealer can get me in until next week at which time I fly to Key West for a week of vacation. I am stumped and bummed that my 5 day old $60k truck is doing this. Lastly, it's concerning to rev the truck to a couple thousand RPM's and then hear the truck jump into gear somewhat violently with less than 200 miles on the odometer. Any advice or help is greatly appreciated.

Drop it off at the dealership before you leave. You want the earliest and most detailed service history immediately.

There are plenty of things going wrong that could cause that behavior but none of them anything that you're going to fix in the driveway. I'd be dropping that truck off at the selling dealer today and asking them to fix while you're out of town. Don't forget to call them a couple of times next week to follow up.

Also, just a bit of advice. Stop driving it that way. If you can’t get it to move without doing that, have it towed to the dealership. Last thing you want is to describe that action to them and for them to say you didn’t mitigate the damage and actually caused whatever is wrong.

I concur with posts #2 & 3 get appt now and leave it with them while your on vacation. Let the dealership work while you play.
The other benefit is you won’t be a foot(walking) when you get back(medafore)

Thanks everyone for your input. Miraculously, I was able to find a dealership 30 minutes away that can work me in at 3pm today to hook my truck up to a "pod" he calls it which will outline any potential issues like a software update, low tranny fluid, etc. His initial guess is that it is low on tranny fluid which is causing a slight delay in the clutch packs engaging. When I slightly rev the truck up to around 2k RPM's, its building the pressure and circulating the fluid enough to engage. Of course, they will know more when they hook it up to the pod, but I hope that the simple fix is low tranny fluid. It makes sense in theory since it's not throwing a code for anything electrical. He said that if the tranny fluid was too low, it would def throw a code so he doesn't see any harm being done in the interim and hopes that the pod shows nothing more than minimal low tranny fluid that is a quick fix. In saying that, those of you that have a new '19 might want to have your dealership check your tranny fluid level next time just in case. It's a closed unit, so the only way you can check is have the dealer hook it up. More to follow, but fingers crossed this is a simple fix.

Edit: Another dealer says it could be a bad throttle body inside the tranny, which the simple fix is to drop the tranny pan, replace part, and refill. I hope it's either that or simply low on tranny fluid. Fingers crossed either way.

Good thing you got it to a dealership. Definitely sounds like something you want the dealer/warranty to fix than you doing trial and error.

So, the dealer states the auto tranny fluid was too high, and got the correct amount drained so it's at the correct level now. Also, there was no software update per my vin. However, the technician did a "smart scan" reset to the tranny settings so that it would reset to factory new settings and get rid of potential bugs. Ironically, it shifted much smoother after leaving the dealership and seems to be great now. The technician did reach out to Chrysler with a summary of my issue to ensure there isn't something else that is recommended just in case. If the issue happens again, the technician said it could be a faulty solenoid in the tranny that needs to be replaced, but believes the software reset was the culprit. Fingers crossed.

Just a quick update: went out this morning and my truck went right into gear once drive was selected, so initially it appears the software reset fixed the glitch :banana-mario:. I am not sure if the tranny being overfilled was a culprit, but it's nice to know the tech got the fluid to the correct level. I absolutely love this truck, so hopefully this temp glitch is over. Now I can head to Key West and enjoy my feet in the sand without worrying. Thanks everyone for your input and as I mentioned in an earlier thread, it may be a good idea for you new '19 owners to have your tranny fluid levels checked at your next oil change or when convenient. Cheers!

My jeep did that on me. I was the dummy trying to pull it forward with the door open.

New update: dealer couldn’t figure out the problem, called Chrysler engineers and they couldn’t figure out the problem, so dealer is ordering a new transmission per Chrysler’s recommendation. Obviously I’m very upset as my 1 week old truck needs a replacement tranny, so I’ve called Chrysler and started a case with them. Waiting on a call back from 2019 management staff and am lobbying for a substitution of collateral to replace my truck. It’s completely unacceptable to have a replacement tranny after a week of ownership.

They had to open my engine on my 2015 ScatPack a week after I purchased it. They wouldn’t replace the car or the engine, just gave it a life time warranty.

My experience is similar to the previous post. They will not offer anything for your troubles though. You will have to ask for exactly (or more) than you want and you won’t get to talk to anyone at FCA who can make any kind of decision. It will always be a call center worker who has to get everything approved and takes about 2-4 days between phone calls. You might be able to lemon law if it takes longer than 30 days (or whatever your states requirement is). It took my dealer 41 days to get a new 12 inch screen for my Ram. Lemon Law is a long process though. Sorry about your bad luck. It a terribly frustrating experience to buy a new vehicle and be caught between the dealer and the manufacturer both of whom will do as little as possible to help you. Hopefully you haven’t filled out your survey yet. Dealers take those very seriously.

I myself am a little burnt on Ram just because of the customer service while my new vehicle sat in their lot for over a month. I will be pursuing any option to get out of it just because I felt like no one gave a ****. Problem is there isn’t another vehicle I want at this point.

Yes it does suck having a new vehicle need repairs right out of the gate but to say that replacement of the transmission is unacceptable is a bit much. Now if they said they were going to have to rebuild your transmission, then by all means you would have a good reason to complain. On a side note, I had a work van that blew the trans @ 10K, and the dealer rebuilt it. That trans went over 200K(engine died) but never could get the trans fluid clean.
The 8HP line of transmissions in these trucks are probably one of the least troublesome items.

Just out of curiosity, what happened to the Limited?
