hey gents, I have searched through all of the threads about exhaust systems and it was too much to digest and follow- so I wanted to make one specifically for me :)

Buddy brought over a 2010 F150 Platinum he wanted me to put a seal of approval on before he bought, and it had the same MBRP system on it that I had on my F150- so now that bug has bit me. Gotta get something better on the Ram. I liked my MBRP, but...

MDS- will this make it sound like ***** when it kicks in? I have read of a drone, boat motor under water sound when it kicks in. Don't want that- but I don't want to disable the MDS.

Any real world experiences with this? Do you all have this drone and live with it or does everyone shut off MDS? Suggestions welcome on cat back systems too!

I have read on here some people notice the drone, others don't. I have a Magnaflow catback and don't notice any drone. The truck is well insulated for sure. You hear it when you get on it, but cruising is mellow. A friend had a '12 Ram with an MBRP catback and it was same as mine, didn't notice any drone.

I have an MBRP on my 2014 and it doesn't drone. Not that I've noticed anyway. When MDS kicks on you can tell but it's not annoying, it doesn't sound half bad IMO!

+1 on MF, I have 16869. The drone with mds is kinda annoying, but not unbearable (though I admit I haven't heard it in months because of the tune).

I have had mine for almost 2 years. Quality on the Magnaflow is great, too.

+2 I'm very happy with my MF 16869 I'd also recommend changing the Y pipe. The factory Y is garbage.

I personally hate the mds sound with the exhaust. But many people handle it with no complaints. To each there own. I wish there was a place you could go bolt on new mufflers just to try them out... That's just a fantasy but the drone suppression pipe mufflex sells is supposes to help. Magnaflows seems to be the way to go with these trucks 18 in and a drone suppression pipe.

Guys,

When do you all mostly notice the MDS kick in? I drive about 98% time in town, and I don't think the MDS has ever kicked in on mine, its stop light to stop light. So unless you are doing a lot of highway driving or real long commutes, I would not think you would need to worry about the MDS at all. Also, when I do highway, I have the radio blasting, so I don't think I would hear anything anyway, lol

I wish it were that easy. Any sign of a tuner- engine warranty gone. We don't have a mod friendly stealership and they are the only one within 100 miles.

I'm pretty stuck on the MBRP systems. I had Magna Flow before and it just wasn't my thing. Not saying I won't investigate it a bit further.

The biggest concern I had was the MDS. Not shelling out for a cat back system if it's going to sound like crap and the MDS kicks in pretty frequently in my truck. We are in a small town and the driving is pretty lazy and laid back.

I'm not sure what other companies use for their cat backs, but if I were to do it over I'd just get an MBRP muffler and cut out the resonators on my own. The MBRP system uses the exact same pipe size that Ram uses. The tips on the MBRP cat back were nicer though lol

Straight Pipea. I hear the drone on long trips but I love the sound of my engine.

If your worried about the mds keep the resonators it will help keep the tone but keep the
DB down so it won't drive you nuts. The cheepest way is buy a muffler and take it to your local exhaust shop and let them install it. They can expand and bend all the pipe to make it a bolt in that away if you don't like it then just take it back out. I love all the YouTube mbrp vids. I found that jegs sells mbrp mufflers the SS muffler is just a tab over 100 and a aluminized muffler is less than 50. 50 on a muffler and 100 at the exhaust shop to test it out may be worth the investment before you buy a full SS cat back for 600 or more.

my Magna's drone but truly the only time it bugs me is if I am passing a car or vis versa, I am sure it sounded like poo to them lol

Just change the muffler, IMHO.
Mine finally sounds like a truck, and why pay to replace fine dinater SS stock piping??
Even with the exhaust note bouncing off the front of the trailer, we tow with our rear slider window open. Have never had drone. Just awesome-ness.
