Hello. I just purchased a 2013 Ram 2500 Cummins. Had been looking for a few months then I found the truck. It was purchased new by the Diesel Tech at the Dealership. 78k miles and spotless.

This is my first Diesel. I own a small construction company and use Ford E350 vans as company trucks. Tools stay dry and secure. They've worked great for me for over 20 years.

Anyway, I wanted a crew cab, diesel and a Ford was not an option. Their diesel engine program after the 7.3l has been a disaster to say the least! Nice trucks, just bad top end problems.

My question: My Ram has just barely warm cabin heat! Dash display shows all temps. Oil, trans, coolant, etc... Coolant temp, once warm is 190ish but vent heat is cool to the feel. (We are having a cold snap, 3 degrees this morning which is about 20 below our average.)

Is low heat normal for a Cummins?

They are slow to warm up, especially in very cold conditions, but once the engine reaches normal operating temperature (180 - 210 deg F) warm air should be felt through any venting condition selected.

I drove it to Church this morning. Coolant temp was in the 180's but still the "Luke Warm" air. I am only testing the air at the dash panel vents. I'll check the rear and defroster vents and see how they feel. I'll look around under the hood and feel for the water lines going into the heater core. Any suggestions before I run it by the dealership?

Welcome from a fellow NC member. Good luck with the heater issue!

I topped off the antifreeze and I think its doing better. It held about 1/2 gal. I think the heater core is the tallest piece in the system so any amount low could effect how much is in the core.

What part of NC are you from? I'm in the North West. We got about 4" of snow this morning so no work today.

I’m in the east. Less than 1” for us yesterday but we had 4” a week ago.
