i got them down to $36k but i had them add the trailer brake controller on top and we also got the paint and cloth protection so after taxes and everything it came to $41k. it's a farm truck tho so i got the tax back after so my actual cost was more like $37.5k

Nice, what are you towing and how does it handle the load?

i tow a bit of everything really. lately it's mainly farm equipment in the 5000-7000lb range. also have a 18ft car trailer that i use for pretty much everything that won't fit in the bed. biggest load so far was a tractor around 8000lbs plus the trailer is 2200lbs so i was probably right at the limit and it pulled just fine with plenty of power to spare

the 8 speed with 3.92 axles is a very nice combination and 1st is a very low gear so it gets loads moving with very little effort. pulling the tractor i could hardly even notice the load was there except when i hit bumps on the road or was stopping but the trailer brakes also helped a lot with stopping. the only real downside with heavy loads is that the coil springs really cause a lot of squat and will lift the front up quite a bit which really ****** off people at night. the air suspension or a set of air bags really helps a lot with bigger loads

Looks nice. Nice old tractor. Shouldn't be a problem towing what I need it to. Don't think I'll need the air bags. If so I'll add later.

yeah the tractor was really the only load so far that i felt the airbags were required and i bought them just for it and still had a lot of squat so pretty sure i was way over payload but i couldn't get the trailer tires to level out without pulling the tractor up further so didn't have a lot of choice. i pull the same trailer with 4 ATVs so roughly 5000lbs and not much squat. the airbags are pretty easy to find and cheap so they are something you can just grab and install if you know there's a big load coming up

got the airlift 1000 since they are recommended so much in the towing section. they are only around $100 and install in about an hour depending how good you are at stuffing them into the coils. they are made out of some pretty thick rubber so seem pretty durable and i've had them in for about 6 months without any issues

hmm that's interesting. on the Canadian site it's $500 for the polished aluminum or $600 for the black

My 2015 Outdoorsman came with 17's standard. 20's were an option

It seems everything local to me has the optional 20's installed. The lot we would be pulling from has another outdoorsman with the 17's on it, not sure if they would flip them or how it would look. About 2 hrs away not sure if I want to make the drive to see both of them. The one with the 17's is only the quad cab.

The rear camera and park assist is a nice option. With the camera you can back right up to your trailer and see the hitch over the ball. With the park assist you can pull right up on something like your garage wall.

the black 20s do look nice but when it comes time to replace the tires there's a pretty big price gap between 17s and 20s. being in the US you're a bit cheaper since you're not taxed into poverty but is still expensive enough to be a consideration

yep i love the camera. great for hooking up a trailer especially if you have the bigger screen(i don't) and it's a huge help when backing up in small spaces

start at $34k or $35k. i'd actually start lower myself but some dealers can get pissy if you go too low. i'd want to end up no more then about $38k. biggest thing is don't be afraid to leave and give them a day or 2 to think it over. if you show them you really want it they know they can get more out of you and won't budge much

once they come back with a price you're comfortable with get a few extras thrown in like 4-6 oil changes. i've never seen a dealer turn down free oil changes because they actually benefit the dealer. the oil changes get you coming back regularly so they get to look over the truck for any repairs and other maintenance like tire rotations

as for the trade make sure you negotiate it separate from the truck in fact it's better not to even mention a trade till you've already worked out the details on the truck. dealers like to negotiate the trade first then use it as if it's a discount on the truck so when you start to haggle they say "well you're already getting X manufactures discount and X for the trade" by doing that they make it seem like there're already giving you a huge discount. in reality you're only getting the manufactures discount plus the value of your trade

My plan is to walk if they don't like my numbers. I don't mind ******* them off, so how ow would you go. Think they just laugh if I started at $32K. Pulled some comps from other dealers that I could reasonably drive too and get their best deal. Hopefully that works to my benefit? Thanks again for your insight on this. This will be my first brand new truck.

yeah i don't mind ******* them off either, really the worst that can happen is they say no anything beyond that they risk ******* you off which is the worst thing they could do if they actually want to sell something.

the price on their site says $48k but doesn't mention if that includes current manufacture discounts(assuming it doesn't) so $32k isn't really a bad place to start. the idea is to throw out a number that says you're serious but that is still a good bit under what you actually want to pay so as each side throws offers you can work towards whatever your target price is.

The only part im not sure about is that truck is not on their lot. They would have to transfer it in from a Syracuse dealer. Not sure if that helps/hurts my chances. Figure if I **** them off I just make the 2 hour drive on Saturday and buy directly from the dealer that has it.

So, not looking good. Best they would do was $42500. Got up and walked. They need to do a lot better.

what are the manufacture discounts like atm? also what was your highest offer? one thing i just noticed is that that truck has the ram box and brake controller so $40k might actually be about right for it

if you're somewhat comfortable with their price one thing you could try is getting them to throw in something bigger like a bed cover or spray in bed liner

He had $6k in rebates. Said the best was 42500, even after I showed him a few comps that were under $40g. Said manager would never go for my offer of 34g. Said I would go higher but since he didn't even bother to talk to someone up the food chain I said thanks and have a good day.
Contacted the actual dealer tonight who has the truck. We'll see what they have to say
