Next week I will be installing 3 new mods that I hope to have available for everyone else pending our testing.

1st, we will be porting a stock truck intake manifold to see if we can squeeze any more power out of it. I have seen some of the car intakes pick up anywhere from 10-15hp/tq from this mod, so we are going to give it a shot on the shop truck.

Next will be a performance Valve Body to try and speed up the shifts at WOT. Even with trans tuning, these trucks just don't shift very fast, especially at higher power levels. I have high hopes for this mod.

And finally, ARH sent us a new 3.5" Y-pipe. This is not something that the average guy will want for their truck, but those of you that are serious about racing should see a decent gain by stepping up the 3" outlet to a 3.5. This Y-pipe is still 3" coming off the header collectors, but merges into a single 3.5" outlet at the back.

All these parts are going in next week, and then we will get the shop truck back on the drag strip. Assuming we get 1 more day with decent air, I'm hoping to see this thing touch a 12.3-12.4 N/A without heads, cam, nitrous, or boost.

interested in the intake manifold mod. I had a intake manifold spacer in my 05' xterra and it was by far the best bang for the buck for that engine but then again... different engine than the hemi. Not sure if the same dynamics would apply.

Don't think he is talking about a spacer...porting a manifold involves smoothing out and removing metal to increase and improve flow. Usually they will match the ports to the exact size of the gaskets as well.

Correct me if I'm wrong since I'm still a Mopar newb, but isn't the IM made out of casted plastic? Seems risky to start dremeling out, then sanding on, the plastic? Do they not offer an aftermarket, Aluminum, sheet metal IM for the 5.7? Or even a casted Aluminum IM... Figured I'd ask.

It is a plastic intake manifold, but there are plenty of rough edges inside that can be cleaned up. You can still port plastic on a CNC or also by hand, and the shop doing this for us has plenty of experience in porting both plastic and metal intakes. I'm not sure how much there is to gain, but I figure it cant hurt. I have an extra stock manifold here just in case it doesn't work out.

IM is only $340. If porting helps, not a bad investment if you know how to do port jobs. They are really easy actually with the right tools.

The ported im will be good for drag racing but i worry how it will affect the powerband for the street.

Some guys were porting the intake manifold on their V6 Mustangs with good results.

If we can get Z28 to chime in, he has first hand experience, I think.

I've always wondered why the ported intake has never been done on these engines before. More untapped potential?

Lots of guys port plastic manifolds, decent gains by doing so. I sent my Boss302 Manifold out and had it ported by a guy on the forum. Matched it with a 84.5 mm Acufab throttle body and it did make a nice improvement. Cut 3 tenths off the 1/4 by doing it along with bringing my shifts up 1000 rpms in each gear.
So I would be interested in this mod for my Ram for sure..

I will know more this week after we get the intake installed. We are porting a 2nd manifold to use for testing on the dyno as well. My blue truck isn't much for testing parts on the street because of a lack of traction, but we will see how it affects my 1/4 mile times this coming Friday.

Id say your gains were from raising the shift points 1000 rpms. Though you probably needed the port job to make power up there.

For sure shifting 1000rpms higher was the key, but from porting the manifold and the bigger throttle body it had a decent amount more on the midrange up to redline which let me run it the 1k rpms more and it wasn't dropping off like before.
people most likely won't see 3 tenths quicker in the 1/4 like I did in my 13 mustang but they will see a gain I would bet.
