So I need to replace the tires on my 2014 1500. It has the ProComp leveling struts and the Zone UCA’s. Currently has the stock wheels with the stock 275/60 r20 size Cooper Discover AT3’s.

I like everything about the current tire but counter to virtually every review I have read they are horrible in the rain.

I have the tires narrowed down to the Falken Wildpeak a/t 3w or the General Grabber atx.

Not sure if I should stick with the stock size, go to the 275/65-20 which works out to 34 tall and 11” wide or possibly the 285/65-20 which works out to 34.5” and 11.5” wide. I have no interest in adding a spacer on the stock wheels to clear the wheel well or the UCA’s.

Curious to hear what others experience is with these tires as well as sizes?

Thanks in advance!

That’s the look I want. Any idea how much MPG you lost going from the stock tire to these?

My last truck a Yukon XL I would get 14-15 local and never more than 18 Hwy. My Ram I am getting 16-17 local and up to 24 hwy with usually about 21. I kind of like that especially with gas prices going up. It’s the primary reason I haven’t traded my truck in for a new 2500.

They have the Cooper AT3 XLT's now that are more aggressive. Remember that you have a pick up truck with all the weight in the front most people writing reviews dont remember that. You can up size if you are looking for a little more meat. All manufactures vary is actual dimensions so its best to find the tire first. I prefer the Toyo At3 as an all around great tire. However I have sold a lot 30+ sets of the cooper At3 XLT in 2021 so far with zero complaints and Im in your region of the world

Im on a 2012 6speed w/ 3.55 gears, a 93 custom tune, headers/ported TB/intake., and Bils @ 2.1 everything went in before the tires. The difference between everything I just listed and then the tires was about 1-2 mpg difference that I noticed. However... in the summer I float between 13-14 city and 18tops HW. Winter is worse based on the fuel mix.

If you have anything less than 3.55 gears Id go with the stock or maybe 275.60.20s over these... I wish I had larger gears, mine dont suck but if I had 3.21 Id be frustrated at the way it would shift.

Thanks for the info! My truck has the 3.21 gears and everything is stock with the exception of the level. With what you are telling me I probably won't go larger than the 275/65-20's.

Some people have no issues, Id get some other opinions but even with 3.55 the shifting and lag is noticable to me. I should also mention I started with the stock size (275.60.20) with my first set of BFG A/Ts after the lift and noticed no MPG difference from the goodyears. I think you would be fine with 275.65.20 and it should save you some $. A half an inch wont be that noticable IMHO. Good luck, post pics for us!!

The mileage I quoted is with the stock size tire and the leveling kit since I got it. When I got it used it had the stock Goodyear and I went to the Coopers and didn’t notice any less mileage. Which I am very happy with.

I have a friend who has the 275/65-20’s on his 2012 and they IMO look good. No idea what he gets for his mileage.

I was running 275/65/20 on my OEM rims with Zone UCAs and Bilstein 5100s (@2.8) and I got the life of them at 50k miles on the Cooper Discoverer ATP/AT3. That size looks good as such and I didn’t need to trim the fender liners or no rubbing on the suspension. They ran well all the way to the end, but did get squirrelly when I “played” in the rain.

After getting my money’s worth (after 6 years) I just replaced them a month or 2 ago with 35s and new wheels. Pro Comp 32 17x9 -6 with Kenda Klever R/T 35/12.5/17 . . . but now they look small on my truck just leveled and a (Zone 1.5”) body lift.

Well I got the new tires earlier this week. I ended up getting the Cooper Discoverer Rugged Treks in 275/65r20. The advertised specs are slightly bigger than most 285/65’s at 34.7/11.5. So far they are much better in turns than the AT3’s I had before and nearly as supple on the bumps. They are noticeably heavier and at least on local driving I went from 16-17 to 14-14.5. Not the end of the world.
