Hey guys this will be my first truck and I have decided to make it a 2004 1500 LST/Laramie w/ 102,000 miles. The only issues and concerns I have as I research this truck is all the people that talk smack of the 4.7 engine. I'm not a gear head by any means and I plan to BABY this truck for many years to come. I will not be buying this truck to pull anything (yet) or take it off roading since it's not a 4x4. I bought it because I love the look of the truck, the test drive hooked me, and it is within my price range ($9,800). Should I have any concerns about the motor? Is it as bad as some of the things I've read on-line? What can I do to make it last?

Welcome to the site!!
I have no experience with the 4.7 engine. But to me, is that a bit too much $
for an '04 with over 100 miles..... make sure you shop around, to compare and such. There are lots out there. If it is comparable, buy it up!!

:welcome: The 4.7 isn't bad. Its just most people who buy one regret not going with the hemi. Overheating due to a clogged radiator is the only problem I've heard, but I'm not too familiar with the engine.

:waytogo::welcome::pepper: Drive a 5.7L Hemi version and I don't think you will go with the 4.7L, especially if you ever decide to pull any kind of trailer.

The motor isnt bad by any means..had one in my 2010..i did extensive research to find performance parts for this motor and almost none exist..

Other than that it will run strong if you dont let the radiator get clogged and overheat (cracks cheap heads) and use fuel treatment because one of the biggest problem with the original 4.7 is the thin cylinder walls that blew out when gunked up and poorly maintained...if you take care of it though it'll give you many solid years of service

9800 sounds like too much to me though you can get a hemi (probably with a few more miles though) for that id say...drive one and you'll never want anything else! I learned to drive in my dads hemi durango with 4.10s so..yeah i needed one [emoji13]

welcome! the 4.7l is a dohc engine very reliable just lacking in the power department. the power vs fuel economy is why most people prefer the hemi a extra 100 hp and same mpg. personally i like the dohc setup just pricey to work on. none the less its a great reliable engine.

Sorry but I am unable to find a Hemi at my price point in my area. If I could I would have. Maybe in a couple more years.
