Hello Group!
New here looking for knowledge!
2015 RAM bought new off the showroom floor. They had done a ram air hood swap and Magnaflow exhaust system with some kind of chip(?) and could bury the speedo on the highway! New updates over the first couple years wiped the fun out though and now she stops at 105.
Love my truck but didn't know about engine issues all this time. Planned on this being my last vehicle and been running Royal Purple synthetic all the way and now she has 213,700 miles even on original plugs with nothing other than 3 sets of tires and a brake job a couple years ago ( Powerstop stuff).
Talked to a friend last year in Upstate NY and his RAM had exhaust manifolds changes 3 times at $1600 each time he said and I said WHY? He said "known issue". So my truck had a tiny noise when started that went away in like 10 seconds so he mentioned my gaskets were probably on the way out. Told him maybe my flow through exhaust saved me that.
This was in 2023!
Fast forward to a few weeks ago and after a typical 35 minute highway drive with no issues I walk out and start my truck and it's misfiring until I drive 500 yards to the road then pinging for a second when driving down the road. Had a random misfire code then cleared then turned into a p0303 cylinder 3 misfire. Wish I knew of issues with the engine 2 months ago so I could have scheduled a cam/lifter job! Now I need an engine!
Will post in the other areas when I search some more and let everyone know more specifics!

Welcome from Ontario, Canada.

214,000-miles is a long way to go with zero preventative & predictive maintenance (that's nearly 350,000Km's). What was your average oil change interval?
I changed the oil regularly between 5000 and 8000 miles with Royal Purple since it was brand new. hardly zero maintenance. Really think I went that for with no oil changes? lol Never had any issues. I put brakes on it and changed the oil all the time and never had one problem. 3 sets of tires. Now that I see they have had lifter issues I wish I had a cam lifter job done but one place as in all brands all warned about this issue and that issue that I never had. Including some die hard Chevy guys asking if I ever came out and saw my wipers going with the truck off, no and all the RAM trucks in my neighborhood have never had that either lol. Where do they come up with this stuff? Only issue I had was around year 2 the cruise control went out after an update. Next time around with an oil change they said there was an update that addressed the cruise control issue. All fine after that for a year then cruise stopped for awhile and next time in I mentioned it to a new service person and she tried telling me the switch and wire from the steering wheel was bad and needed to be replaced at $750. I asked her if the update had anything to do with the new update and she had no idea. Cruise came back and has been working for years all ok now.

You see after this response, how interactive this Community has been!

Pretty clear you didn't read my initial response, or better yet, understand it!

Do YOU really think that the verbiage "preventative & predictive maintenance" has anything to do with your average oil change intervals!? LOL!

Furthermore, tires and brakes are consumables and again, not preventative nor predictive maintenance items.

Good on you for doing 5 to 8 K Mile OCI's throughout your trucks 214K Mile lifespan and only dealing with this now.

Best of luck to you & Happy New Year.

Well I guess I'm not sure 100% what actual predictive maintenance is or preventative is then and wish I had a list. When I bought it they told me I'd go 200 thousand miles and I would not have to do anything other than oil tires brakes and plugs. I did have a few people the first few months trying to sell me everything including transmission oil replacement every 20,000 miles which another person standing there said that wasn't true and the transmission was not serviceable and made for the life of the truck. And it was $1000 each time and I gave them a funny look. They also tried to offer me 25,000 for the truck when it was 1 year old and I laughed at them and told them find me 10 like mine at that price and I would get them all! I've learned more about these trucks in the last few weeks as ever. And the first stop never told me about the belt sanding trick I read about here and they just replace them. Glad I know that now too! At this point I'm trying to get all my ducks in a row because nowadays seems like no real local machine shop around me that I could have them rebuild my engine like in the old days with what I wanted. All now seem to be just parts swappers. Now after all these years we know about the lifter issues where in 2015 I never heard one word about them. I'm just going along here day by day now and still seeing big number differences, like $5700 vs $8000 which is a lot to me.

I have a 2014 now, had a 2010, 2005 all with the hemi, Mind you I never put the mileage on you do, I am old now , and had older better trucks as well.
I have never had any work done on any of those trucks.
Never heard of a cruise problem, only problem I have had is 1 or 2 times a year, the key fob will not talk to the truck, more like the truck don't talk to the fob ( sounds like marriage at times)
But next time I use it ,it works fine.

I Change the oil at recommended mileage, always use full syth. Up here I run 2 sets of wheel/tires, IE last night we has freezing rain, and the it froze. You get use to this silliness.

Are you sure the cam is wiped out? you could have buggered plug at that mileage.
I hear all the time on here about bad lifter, But I have never seen it on any one I know in this area on their trucks.
Son in law had a motor go , it kept overheating, "they said cracked blk", But never pulled it down, pulled the heads. Just sold him a reman. Small little shop.
I think blown head gasket from what I was told.
Good Luck , From Canada.

There was lots of talk about lifter / cam issues on the redesigned 09 and newer blocks by 2015,you just weren't doing enough research. If you got 213,000 out of it,i don't think the engine owes you anything, especially with the lack of maintence and crappy oil you were using.Royal Purple is one of the worst oils you could have used in it.Spark plugs to 213,000 give me a break, and no transmission service either, you're gulible as all hell aren't you, then you get on here and bad mouth the engine

Somebodies been listening,lol

Bit me on my 2010, was getting an intermittent misfire on #6, the first time it happened I let out a big sigh, wasn't looking forward to doing a cam\lifter job. Was thinking of just trading it, but decided to take a look at it since it wasn't noisy at all, got lucky, that's all it was. Over 190K on it, still runs like an Omega Seamaster.

Sorry, wife side-tracked me, forgot to add I actually think I have you to thank for it. I remembered reading a post about it, along with a recommendation of some small wire brush cleaners. You should have gotten a kickback from amazon when I bought them...LOL. So a big thank you!

Shop took the valve cover off and the rocker arm didn't move when turning it over so ya the cam lobe is gone sadly.

Well I wasn't searching forums for issues when I bought a brand new truck off the showroom floor and they told me as well as others the transmission wasn't serviceable back then. ...Even a video on the tube talking about it. In 09 I was still driving my 2000 Dakota to 210,000 miles before I traded it in June of 2015 for the RAM. So what lack of maintenance? Oil changes , tires and brakes regularly and if Royal purple was as bad as you say it wouldn't look super clean under the valve covers and wouldn't have lasted as long as it did. Why bother changing plugs when I'm still getting 22 mpg on the highway? Obviously they were working fine. Maybe not to 100% capability but still ok with that mileage. Never expected to get 35mpg with it. Not badmouthing any engine just finding out issues late in the game. Guess I could have not been so gullible and fell for all the sales ploys and spent $100,000 on each and every service they tried to sell me. I listened to my brother in law 2 days ago try to tell me changing headlights cost $300 and I ask him where'd he hear that LMAO. Had many people tell me if the transmission wasn't serviced at 60,000 miles and now it's over 100,000 then don't bother and right now it's still fine at 213,000. Must be I got a good one.

Remind me to never buy one of your used vehicles ;) That's a wifes tail about not servicing the transmission once you're over a 100,000 miles, but if you believe it,all the power to you:waytogo:

Well my dads ram was in dealer for 2 weeks to figure out why the wipers would turn on in middle of night and kill battery!
So it is a thing.

Ps you type like my sons brain when I forget to give him his ADHD meds… lol joking aside cheers mate.
