Dude, if it was me I'd be happy, you got all new chit and it is covered for 12 months. Seriously, replaced all the guts and you have a problem? Partner, that is a great benefit to you. Cam, rockers, lifters, and the entire enchilada. So run a conventional oil with a zinc additive when you get it back, break it in proper.

Now, put that 20 weight oil down and pick up some 30 weight with high moly, hopefully you are good.

Thank you everyone for yalls feedback. I just got the truck back, and im breaking it in accordingly. I just want to say I appreciate everyone's opinion bc it's what I had asked for. After thinking and taking in yalls feedback about the new engine and giving myself some time to cool down (as I was beyond pissed) I feel as tho it was a blessing that this had happened when I still had a warrenty rather than not. ...or I would be out of $8k plus change from what the invoice says. I did however went ahead and bought ...well financed a 5yr 100k mile warrenty to cover the new engine. My wife disagrees but I think her frustration with everything going on is clouding her judgement. I could say the same for myself but I will admit, yalls feedback has def opened my eyes to how lucky I am. So for that I thank yall!

You can bet that if you were paying out of pocket that the dealer would tac on another 2-3K for that project.

Sorry for my earlier posts as I misunderstood your original post. I was under the impression that you were out of warranty.

No its no problem. If I was out of warrenty I would have def had a big problem. But look I appreciate everyone's honesty and opinions whether it was good or bad. For me, I try to gather more opinions than myself then try to make my next move with all the information provided. I've only been a ram owner for only 3mths..yall have had ur rams for alot longer. And I love the truck I have, just come to realize that I had sum misfortune with mine but was lucky.

Penny for your thoughts... now that I got the truck back, would yall suggest getting a new odometer display or getting it reset(if that's even possible) to reflect the mileage on the new motor or just keep track of it in one of the trip readings? Just thinking and playing with ideas.

Here's a better one for you... My dad 2 years ago bought a new. Yes NEW 2014 Chevy 2500 6.0, 900 miles into it and the valve train was junk. They did "stuff" to it and at 1200 the motor was toast... And gm told him to basically pound salt and wouldn't replace the motor being it still ran (if you count rods slapping, valves clanking, and running on 5-6 cylinders)

Problem with that is your mileage is the same for everything else that was not replaced so that would seem borderline fraudulent.

imo, stuff happens, it got covered, right?

I agree 100% with the above. You bought a used truck, why would the dealer give you a new one? The warranty is there to cover this type of thing. I honestly don't think you deserve more warranty either.

However....I would have shot for this:

I think you should have insisted on a new engine instead of the dealer building you an engine.

Any future claims now may have to be taken care of by the FL dealer.

Your odometer is married to the truck and not the engine. Replacing or setting back the mileage will hurt you when you either go to sell it or have an event like a registration/state inspection or car fax reporting for a future service that shows a lower mileage than last reported. This will flag the vehicle with an odometer discrepancy and will be noted on future title transfers that will also lower your trade in value. For all intents and purposes, it will then be treated the same as a salvage vehicle.

That is pretty much ilegal... Just keep on your records from when the motor was rebuilt. From when a warranty claim is submitted or anything is submitted to CARFAX, the mileage is also submitted. That there could be considered fraud. And to my understanding the only way to "change" the mileage is to get a new IPC and then have it programed with the "new" mileage.

Glad you got your truck all taken care of though. Be glad you had that warranty. S*** happens...

Just got back to the house in tallahassee and sure enough the dealership that I bought the truck from left a voice mail asking me to come in tomorrow morning. This is weird to me because I haven't told them about the truck. So we will see what happens tomorrow.

I'd really like to know what caused the engine failure. These engines are well proven. The list of things that went wrong, don't exactly add up.

Just for the record, your truck is nearly 5 years old. It's not new.

Doesn't surprise me at all that the purchasing dealership wants to contact you. There may be some protocall they have to follow when a major repair/rebuild takes place.

I've heard a few people post about the lifters or cam taking out the motor. It doesn't seem that common, but it seems when somebody has a major issue. They post it on the forum. lol

Just got back from the dealer where I got the truck. And EVEN THO I bought the "2011" ram, they insisted that they reimburse me 100% of the 5yr 100k dodge Chrysler warrenty that I purchased after getting of the 3rd party "ally" warrenty. I insisted that they didn't have to due to the fact that I was lucky that the motor blew when it did but they wouldn't let me leave without them reimbursing me. So with all the paperwork, I have a warrenty that covers the whole truck bumper to bumper and power train till the truck it's 6hrs or 149k miles. With everything said and done not only do I feel lucky about the timing of when the motor blew but I'm grateful of the dealer being very generous.

Glad to see there are dealers that still care about the customer and not just their bottom line

Sounds like the dealer you bought the truck from is one of the 'stand up' ones!! Definitely a good way to earn repeat business!

If its under Chrysler warranty and Chrysler dealer did the work, why would another Chrysler dealer have an issue? This is no different than if he lived in FL and moved to TN. He wouldn't have to drive to FL for warranty work, that's ridiculous.
