I've read that the redesign will be for 2019 models. 2018 models will still be 4th gen from what I've gathered.

Yep what he said ^

There's supposedly a redesign slated for the 2019 model year.

I've heard a slightly different rumor, the Gen 5 will be introduced as a 2018.5 model or possible as a 2019 in the late 2018 model year. It is based on RAM's ability to get the Sterling Heights plant online. This comes from a friend of mine that works as a semi switch operator at Sterling Heights.

The RAM HDs will come late 2019 as 2020s, this is based on the plant's ability to make the switch-over (read this as available capital for plant investment).

Chrysler has always been tight-lipped about new models. In this case, with all the other crap they are dealing with and their ability to produce investment capital has made the Gen 5 scheduling a moving target hence all the rumors.

I would be a bit skittish about buying a first year new generation from a brand new plant.

I bought a first year Gen 4 Laramie, it took three years of software updates before serval features worked correctly. The truck still randomly unlocks the doors when the vehicle in unattended and powertrain updates are still being delivered when I go in for an oil change.

There is a lot of truth to the statement :)

Hoping they push to 19 so that I have one year from my 17 to the end of 4th gen. Not that it matters but my Silverado was an 06 which was the year before the 07 body change so I want that one year gap to feel like I'm not always late to the game haha.

And my fiance has a first year Ford Escape 2013. It's literally been in the shop for warranty issues on like 28 things or somewhere around there. She pretty much hates it due to that
