Was working on wiring my canopy today and noticed I didn't have brake lights unless the key is on. This was before i messed with any factory wiring so i don't think i did anything. I'm pretty sure it always had brake lights in the past regardless of the key being on. I noticed there are a few old threads about this same situation but no one followed up with a resolution. Brakes lights work fine with key on. Checked the fuses, everything is good. Only thing I can think is I pulled the dash a few weeks ago to do the heater core. I unhooked the brake switch at that time. I double checked it today and it seemed to be mounted correctly. I went ahead and ordered a new mopar switch for the hell of it. Wasn't too expensive.
Obviously the main thing is that they work while I'm driving which they do, but if something is wrong I'd like to fix it. Anyone have a suggestion? Am I crazy and it's fine? The only suggestion in the old threads was to replace the brake switch.

Weird things today now. This morning at the gas station I get a service 4wd system and traction control light. At home it goes away. I read that it could also be caused by a faulty brake switch so I went to town and bought another one. Still no brake lights with the key off. Went to town again and the service 4wd system and Traction control lights came on again. I went to leave a store and the shifter was stuck in park. Truck started fine but couldn't shift out of park. Didn't feel bound up, just wouldn't let me move it. Turned the truck off and put the parking brake on. Then after that it let me shift into drive. Did it once more on my last stop home. The service 4wd system and traction control lights both turned off randomly on my way home.

This is starting to drive me crazy. Truck was fine until I noticed the brake light thing yesterday.

The brake light comes from the ABS module and the BCM. Those other codes likely come from the ABS module as well. Sorry I can't help with troubleshooting. Have you scanned for codes?
