Noob needs help 6.4L possible lifter and cam

Riddle me this though? The Remflex gasket has 1 less hole (9) then the original gasket ( 10 )and the Dorman manifold stud kit 03309 only has 9 fasteners instead of the original 10? Just bolt it on with the 9 fasteners or drill out the missing hole in the gasket and use one of the old bolts?

If there was a bolt in that hole,then drill out the gasket to match,and use the best looking of your old bolts.The 6.4 uses EGR,so the manifolds are slightly differant then the 5.7 manifolds

If there was a bolt in that hole,then drill out the gasket to match,and use the best looking of your old bolts.The 6.4 uses EGR,so the manifolds are slightly differant then the 5.7 manifolds

IMG_3196.jpegThis is the hole I had to make, being on the edge of the gasket a file worked much better then a drill bit. I flipped and flooped it then counted the holes, only 9 holes in the new gasket and I need 10 holes

That may be the answer to why the Remflex gaskets aren’t listed as a fit for the 6.4

No, they are listed for the 6.4 up to model year 2016. I’m wondering if this is another situation where my 2016 Ram 2500 6.4 is different than @White six four because mine was manufactured later in the year. His 2016 has a MAF sensor, mine doesn’t

What’s your opinion on putting Copper Spray a gasket in the head gaskets? Yea or Nea

There is a viton coating, that's that black coating that you'll see on the MLS gasket and this is designed to help the gasket seal to both the head surface and the deck surface of the block. So copper spray is not essential, it's not necessary, and it's not going to actually help the gasket do its job any better

IMG_3208.jpegThis gasket in the left bank has no gasket around the bolt in the bottom portion of the picture and again I will need to drill or file a hole near the top of the picture. I’m sure it will be good, I’m just going to do the final torque at the top were there is gasket and then final torque were there is no gasket around the bolt hole. Exhaust will still be sealed up perfectly

IMG_3213.jpegI went to put the right bank head in today, got myself and the head up onto the grill area and got my right leg in beside the left bank pistons, my right foot in the left side engine mount, I had toed back anything that could possibly get in the way but I still couldn’t get the head in, the steel fuel lines are maybe 1/2 higher than the height of the head, there’s a brace at the front and at the back that holds those fuel lines. I must have touched the gasket because it fell off the dowels. I felt like if I tried to put it in, I would damage either the gasket, the head or both again. I have a few things running through my head. 1 I could have Blake come over and lift up the fuel lines, that would give me another 1/2 to 1” but I still think it would be a chance that I damage something again. Is there anything I can use to hold the gasket in place, wit he all the layers it is pretty much the height of the dowels and a little nudge and it falls off? 2. I’m running the idea of using the 2 bolts from my spring compressor tool and finding or making 2 straps that I could attach to the head using 2 holes for the rocker arms, that way Blake could maybe take some of the weight, but again it’s all manual power this way and there’s only 1 way it will go in. I could see this going badly as well. 3 my other thought is just take the time to take the good off of need be, find and put together my engine hoist, have to get some type of ratcheting gear for on the hoist so it can be lowered an inch at a time and have versatility to move it around, thinking of using 3 if the rocker holes and the 2 bolts again, just have to find a strap. If the hoist won’t work then I may have to build something out of wood that rolls over the truck, basically to posts in wheels and a beam between the 2 posts, and then some type of pulley system so it can be lowered or raised an inch at a time without fatigue being a factor. I thought I would see if anyone here had any ideas that I haven’t thought off to hold the gasket in place and a way to get it in there safely

Get the airbox out of the way and pull the wheel well liners and front tires off,then you can have your helper reach in through the wheel well to help set the heads in place

I looked up on rockauto and they list the same mopar manifold part #s driver and passenger for a 15 2500 6.4 and a 17 2500 6.4. I did those years to get rid of the between year in case they did change halfway through 16. So I have no clue about that one.

The whole manifold thing is odd, My truck was listed for the Remflex 6022 gaskets yet I had to make my own holes in it. The exhaust manifold studs I ordered from Rock Auto said they were for my truck yet only came with 9 fasteners instead of 10? Doesn’t matter, it’s all worked out but just odd

I took the inner fender out and yes there’s some good room under there for a set of hands. I’m at home now waiting for some help. When it comes time for the left bank take the inner fender off for that side as well?

Wow, what a difference having the inner fender off, I took the heat shield which allowed Blake to grab onto the exhaust manifold to help guide and take weight off. Went smooth as butter

IMG_3237.jpegThe little clips/tabs at the bottom of the retainer for the bolts that hold the rocker rail down, those tabs stop me from putting it back together, can I squeeze those tabs together and put it together or was I not supposed to take the bolts out of the rocker rail?
