Just joined because I want to get a feel for this brand of truck. I have never owned a RAM truck, but I'm seeing more and more of these on the road and I got to thinking that they must be doing something right.

So I am here to get a mechanical sense of what I should expect with a RAM truck. Hope this is o.k.?

Welcome.

I used to be a GM owner, had one Ford F150. But other than that, always GM.
In 2011 I wanted a RCSB, and GM had the 4.8 and most had a V6. But they had stripped down, 17's, single exhaust, etc.
I looked at the Ram Express. RCSB, 5.7, factory 20's, dual exhaust, and 4 way disc brakes, not disc /drum like the GM.

LOVED the truck....loved the power, etc....so had it for 3.5 years, sold it and got a new 2015 Ram Crew Cab, hemi, 8 speed....love this truck. And I have driven many GM's personally and company fleet, even a 2014 GM CC couldn't touch my Ram in power and style.

Every vehicle is going to have it's own issues. And every person is going to have their bias.
I could sit here and tell you how much I love the 1994-2001 Dodge Rams and that I think they are the greatest truck ever made, but I will spare you. I am on my third 2nd gen Ram, 2 gassers and one diesel. I will say that if you go diesel, you will not regret it. The power from a 5.9 is quite impressive. The sounds is amazing, and the fuel economy isn't too bad either. It just all depends on your taste. If you go used, and find a truck that's been maintained well, then you shouldn't have too many issues, however stuff does start to wear out. There is a negative stigma about the auto transmissions in these trucks, but many people have gotten over 200k miles on theirs without touching them. I have personally always like the interior on dodges better than any other truck. I'm not a huge fan of the 2003 or newer rams, but that's just me. I think front ends have been the biggest issue I have had with my rams, but every single one I have had has had a lift with at least 35" tires on them, so front ends don't last quite as long in that setup. I also have never bought a new vehicle and I don't think I ever will.

Thanks for the insight. To you and the other person who asked, I am looking for something used, but nothing older than 2013 right now. Really I would like a 2014 or 2015. Got to have 4 wheel drive.
