Long story short, I was on the way to lloydminster from Edmonton and hard a loud noise when I let off the gas, and then a loud bang and dragging noise, pulled over and seen my driveshaft out of the rear end and sitting on the ground, the part coming out the the rear end, which should be straight was pointing up and was hot as hell and wouldn't move at all, there's fluid leaking out so it wasnt lack of fluid, im guessing the gears just broke apart and got caught up. My questions are, will I have to replace the whole rear end? Or just the gears? And there's a couple small dents in the driveshaft, would that need to be replaced or will it be ok? Only bought the truck a couple months ago from a dealer, but no warranty, yaaayyyy, best luck ever.

It was the pinion yoke, looks like the bearing is all outta shape too, I can move the truck in 4wd but the back tires are locked up, so pretty much just be able to move it a few feet into a shop

A customer came into the shop I freguent with a bad differential and he choose to order a complete rebuilt axle assembly to have installed. It came complete including gear oil. Shop had to install the brakes from the old axle. It costed $1000 plus $250 core charge. I don't know what shipping was but the crate was re-usable and the axle was shipped back (core) in the same crate. So in the end it costed close to $1000 plus install labor. Years ago I had a shop replace my differential and gears. Parts was $850 plus $400 labor. Good luck

Do u remember where it was he ordered the diff from? I need the whole axle assembly and probably the driveshaft, I pulled the cover off and looks like the bearings let go and everything went to hell, the driveshaft got knocked around a bit and I don't think its straight anymore, fml. It's 3:92 gearing, what other years of ram diffs would bolt right in? Thanks again for ye replies!
