Now a ram owner, and I have some quirks to resolve.

Bought a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 Laramie SLT extended cab 4x4 with a 5.2 Magnum in it.

Guy rebuilt the top end of the motor and replaced the oil pump on the bottom. In doing so he says he snapped the vacuum lines and/or assemblies for the 4x4 that sits on the passenger side near the fender well. He had the vacuum lines capped off because of the missing parts. He said there was a ball that sits on the fender well that the lines run into, I guess that's missing because there's no ball shaped anything in that area currently. He said if the lines were hooked up as is it would lock into 4x4, so he left them open. I've taken pics of the area, and I'm hoping you guys can tell me what I'm missing. Also, my a/c only blows out the defrost. I've read a few threads and I've seen the wild vents one. This isn't an under load thing, it's a constant from the time the truck is started thing. I'm guessing that whatever is missing for the 4x4 probably has something to do with the a/c vacuum. Here's a couple pics of the area.

You are very much correct about it all being inter-related.
There vacuum system for both the HVAC and 4wd is all right there.

At a minimum you'll need a check valve coming off the intake, to assure the system keeps vacuum, even if the engine isn't pulling any.

The System T's to the HVAC and then goes down to the T-case, then up to the front axle. (The vacuum is switched at the T-case to actuate the front axle disconnect).

Should be fairly quick and easy to fix this. Best of luck!

Does anyone have a picture of theirs I can compare with to see what I'm missing?

I can shoot a picture of mine tomorrow if you want me to.

It's really hard for me to see anything weird going on there, lots of wiring pulled out of place it looks like.

Pictures coming up....

Arrow is pointing to the vacuum elbow connected to the intake. I think there might be a check valve in there, don't remember
2nrpmae.jpg

Number one is the big line coming off the elbow, 2 is the Tee that reduces the line into the little lines that like to break. Number 3 is the small line that likes to break.....
34y71ja.jpg

Hard to see, camera did something weird. lol Number one is one of the check valves that like to fail, 2 is the line going into the truck's HVAC box, this is where you get wild vents from, 3 is a hard line going to the purge solenoid for the emissions.
27y28ex.jpg

One is the vent for the front axle and I don't remember what 2 is, might be the trans vent, never looked for it.

Hope this helps you. :)

Is there a big ball shaped thing bolted to or near your passenger wheel well over there?

Big ball shaped thing?

I looked at your pictures again, and looks like number 2 (in my very last picture) has bene re-located in your truck to further up on the fender. I think that MIGHT be the trans. vent line.

Ya, the guy said there was supposed to be a ball shaped thing right there on the fender well, that broke off. Since I don't have one and haven't owned a ram or looked under the hood, I don't know.

Can you take a picture of where you think it's supposed to be?

The only two "ball shaped" things I can think of on that fender are the cover for the trans. vent and the EVAP purge solenoid, on the fender behind the headlight.

First and second picture of mine up there, right on the fender well, near the white vent thing coming out of the ********* vacuum line attached to the fender well. Looks like there's manufacturer ridges and a hole for something to bolt in. Figured that was it.

If it is what I'm thinking of, then yes, that's the cover for the trans. vent line.

Looking at yours and mine, you have a black bulb shaped thing on the end of your big line, next to the white one, mine keeps going to the front, seen here.

IMG_20130906_161147_zps98f6148e.jpg

And ends here near the passenger headlight. If you look at the plastic ribbed air intake thing, right below it but near the bottom height wise, you can see that black line making a 90 into the unit there.

IMG_20130906_161153_zpsc8fc6cf9.jpg

Lastly I'm thinking this is my HVAC issue. There's a broken vacuum line and it looks like it runs into where the heater core is, but the other end is broke off and hanging. Where does this hook up to? Ignore my finger, I was just holding stuff out of the way, not pointing at anything.

IMG_20130906_161241_zpsc9d40e05.jpg

Also what is that blue thing you have a hose running into and a hose clamp on the line, laying across the white vent line?

Yep. I dunno what your line is plugged into. Looks like some sort of purge solenoid. I don't have that on my truck.

That little line is where a check valve is supposed to go. Look at my picture for an idea of what it's supposed to look like.

The blue thing is my PCV oil catch can. lol

From what I can see you don't have a vacuum line coming out of your heater hoses on the firewall like I do.

Nope, because mine are coming out where the A/C lines go through the firewall. I think yours might have broke at one point (you don't say?!) and somebody ran them through the hole for the heater.

This is the only vacuum line I have coming off the intake, going into the firewall right below where the rubber strip is on top of the firewall. I'm guessing I'm missing some stuff off those plugged tee, but I don't know what or where they go. I'm also guessing that the broken line I showed before hooks in here somwhere.

As I had stated in the picture I posted, the fat line tee's off into a reducer thing where the small line connects. There is a check valve in that I'm thinking.

Went to the parts store and bought some vacuum line that fits over the broken part. The people there had never heard of a check valve and I saw nothing on the shelf that looked like that. There were some reducers, but I didn't need one. Hooked the new hose to the tee and to the broken line. At first it didn't change the vent setting, but after about 5 minutes it finally switched to the dash when on max a/c and reg a/c setting. But switching it off it made it go right back to defrost no matter what setting, and when I set it back to max or reg a/c it took a long ass time to switch again. Suggestions?

They haven't heard of it because it's a dealer part.

Well, either that or a select parts store part. Can't remember which.

Sorry I forgot to tell you about that. :D
