I have a new 2020 limited 4x4 off-road edition with 5.7l hemi 1500 miles on it

when driving at a constant 35mph (around 1200rpm) it will seem to hunt for a different gear intermittently and I can feel it shift. The rpms do not seem to change

just seems odd

the 2017 big horn 4x4 with the v6 I traded in never did this as it was smooth as silk shifting at all times

I had 27000 miles on it

thanks

Sounds more like MDS engaging and disengaging. Try setting the gear limit to 8 using the buttons on the steering wheel. If that smooths it out there you go.

First trip today around 50 miles of in town and interstate
Totally all miles using 8 setting

not one instance of issue

going to try a couple more trips to make sure this is it

if so is there a fix to this or do you just have to run in setting 8
If no fix available is it hurting to leave it in normal (mds) mode

I think it's normal operation. If I remember correctly the MDS will activate and deactivate intermittently to prevent the 4 cylinders that deactivate from cooling down and creating issues.
In terms of being able to feel it, it seems like some trucks/people are more sensitive to the MDS but I can't see it hurting anything by letting it do it's thing. I personally turn mine off but that's more because I don't like the feeling/sound of it kicking on and off constantly.

Does the mds function at all speeds

I thought it was just 60mph and above

All speeds. I can hear it motorboating as I drive through my 20 mph neighborhood.

Yup, all speeds. If I leave it on I can hear it running at 30km/h and it'll even stay on while accelerating around corners if I'm light on the throttle.

Glad the gear limi trick worked. I have a 2500 but my 6.4 does the exact same thing. I leave MDS on while driving on the freeway but disable it in town or in the forest. The low speed activation is a bit of a nuisance but I do notice better fuel mileage leaving it on when driving highway speeds.

Final report from today’s 50 mile round trip
Felt the truck have the issue twice while in mds normal mode when running around 35mph. Put the truck in 8 mode to bypass mds and never felt it again. Thanks again to ALL who helped me out with the great info and advise
