Just bought a 99 dodge ram 1500 two weeks ago. I just noticed the other day an odd hissing/rubbing noise. It won't do it at idle or when revving in park. Only when between 1/4 throttle and 1/2 throttle. It does not depend on what gear the transmission is in. Any ideas?

Hissing my first check would be the gasket for the air cleaner. Hissing and rubbing easy quick check is to pull the serpentine belt off and check the bearings on all your pulleys. I just got done doing that today actually.

Edit: My intake also makes a hissing sound under light throttle but doesn't at idle or when revving in place. Thought I'd throw that in too.

Thanks, it was the tensioner for sure. It is holding the belt tight enough, but the bearing is toast. I sprayed it with some gun oil I had laying around and it went away. Where is the best place to get parts for these trucks from? I normally use NAPA but for my last car they were the same quality as auto zone.

You can buy just the bearing and press the old one out and the new one in, cheap ass part.
Or you can remove the dust cover from the bearing grease it, put the dust cover back on it and see it that helps.

Quality depends on what brand you go with, obviously some are better than others. I don't know which tho. I like to go to my local Oreillys if I need parts quickly but otherwise rockauto is generally pretty good as you can usually find the exact same parts as Napa AutoZone O'reillys etc but for cheaper, just gotta wait on shipping
