My 2024 Ram Quad Cab 1500 4WD came with what i suspect are passenger car tires. Thus far i have gotten 2 flats on a 12 mile stretch of logging roads in northern NH. Roads are gravel and each flat is a gravel puncture. Very annoying. After this week’s flat I’ll dump original Ram tires for Toyo Open Country A/T 3 tires. While 95% of my driving is on paved roads, the gravel roads that lead to camp are not suited to passenger car quality tires. If you buy a Ram 4WD make sure it comes with truck tires.

If the majority of your travels are highway, perhaps look at Michelin Defender LTX M/S in Load-E ...

These will absolutely handle the 5% or so you travel offroad with zero issues.

These are fantastic tires that require very little weight to balance out on a road force balancer, are strong as heck, and provide exceptional handling on the highway with amazing wet road traction and are super quiet, too.

The tires also have incredible longevity and are backed by an exceptional warranty as well.

Thanks, agree Michelin Defenders are a great tire. I put them on a 4Runner back in the early 2000s. Toyo tires were ordered earlier today for installation tomorrow morning. I was won over by their reviews. After I’ve lived with them for a year I’ll post my opinion of them. I anticipate a modest increase in fuel costs, a slightly stiffer ride, better traction in snow, perhaps more noise (although my hearing isn’t what it used to be so that’s not an issue), and hopefully no flats on the gravel road.

Most of the ram 1500 trucks dont come with lt rated tires. I think only the rebel, warlock and trx/rho trucks have lt tires.

Oem tires on just about any make and model under the sun are widely known for not being that great of a tire.

What I Run: I had TOYO AT's on wife's F150 years ago, they were nice and not bad on highway. I run Wildpeak AT4W's on my 2019 RAM. They come in 6 Ply "C", 8 Ply "D", 10 Ply "E" rated. I just have "C"'s as all I need, they run well on highway and off. But tire opinions like Oil/Filter thoughts, everyone has opinion, lol. Just FTR, the Wildpeaks are snow rated. I use the tires more for mud, field travel to get hay and such and flooded over roads. (Snow not an issue, though we did get 8" in Freak snow storm in 2021, Had AT3W's on truck then).

CAVEAT: Going from Balloon Wrangler Goodyears to Wildpeaks, my MPG dropped by 1 to 1 1/2 MPG. Worth it considering the difference in tires and handling, and also weight difference on tires, more rubber and stability on the road, all IMHO.

Funny you should mention this... I ordered a trailer-tow package on my Ram 1500 and wanted at least Load Range C truck tires. My previous Ram Outdoorsman came with Goodyear Wrangler 'Pro-Grade' Kevlar type tires and I'd had 60,000 miles on them when I traded the truck in. Nowhere in the NEW truck 'order' form at the dealership could I change anything related to the tire type - only the wheel size. The salesman said he'd never even known if there was a way to specify a particular tire type from a 'factory' order. (I did opt for 17" wheels as the larger wheels of course result in more expensive tires.) Anyway, it came with a 'SL' standard load, highway-tread type Goodyear Wrangler - it looked like a car tire. Our first trip with our bumper-pull trailer made my wife nauseous; I couldn't keep the back end from squirming all over the lane. I literally got to our campsite, and said "I'm NOT pulling this home with these tires." I got a full set of the same Goodyear Wrangler 'Pro Grade' Kevlar tires - load range 'E' - and have had zero issues with them. They don't squirm, have a reasonably aggressive tread for our Michigan winters, and have good durability. Just sayin'...

I currently have the Wildpeak AT3s on my truck and will be replacing them this Fall. I'm pretty set on the AT4s and the AT3s are no longer available, but just curious about your thoughts on the AT3 > AT4 update. There is almost no apparent visual difference, and the tire life is just a little better, but what is your actual feel/experience?
I have been very pleased with these AT3s.

I was happy with my AT3's. They had some mileage left on them, BUT I replaced them more based on AGE that mileage. They were close to 8 years old and just did not want to run 8 year old tires at 70-85 MPH speeds. Happy with the AT4's, but remember: They come in C,D,E ply ratings. In TX, U can add $30 per tire from C to D, and $60 per tire from D to E. I just run 'C' as that works for me. But I do like the added capability of off road, when I have to go out in fields for stuff and/or get Hay etc.

I really liked General Grabber ATX. It was between those and Falken Wildpeak AT3 at the time, app a decade ago when I was using like OP for more offroad use.

Now that I'm mostly highway use, I'm on all season. Michelin didn't make a LR E in Defender LTX, so I went to Goodyear Wrangler Workhorse AS. They've been good.

Thanks. My 4th Gen has the 20" wheels, and the tire place installed factory equivalent, most likely Load Range C. I am 99.9% road and highway use and have only ever towed once, and will likely stay with the Load Range that is on there now.
IIRC my AT3s will be 3 this fall, not sure of mileage but I don't want to go through another winter with these, just a bit too worn.

my '21 power wagon came with Goodyear durcraps.i hate those tires with a burning passion.they lasted 3 days on the truck before I replaced them.

You'd think a dealer could take care of that for a customer instead of having the factory force the cheap crap down our throats.

The warlock comes with Goodyear SRA street tires in the 20 inch version. You have to opt for the 17 wheels to get a different tire.

At least on the 2024 model, classic. Not certain o a 5th gen.

So what was it about the Duratracs that you hated so much. I have run them for years on my Rams, but most of the miles are not on pavement, so for my use, I like them. There are thousands of oilfield and logging pickups running Duratrac too. If it was mostly highway use, probably not as much.

seems fishy

Yes Wrangler SRA's are passenger tires for sure ,and are OEM,on my 2023 Classic as well.Good for light duty.I use them seasonally, just to wear them out,but won't replace them with the same. They are slippery, especially in snow.P275 60r 20.I take them off in the Fall,(I used to till last year when lifting them gave me a hernia),and have Goodyear Wrangler Duratrak RT on another set of factory rims,(now seasonally) installed at Canadian tire($30.00).
I am happy with the Duratrak rt ,as that is abit of an improvement, over the first generation Duratrak. The ones I have are passenger rated but they come in heavier load ratings,as well.I live on Lake Erie and they get me through deep snow drifts

The new warlocks come with duratracs. Not sure if they are lt rated, though.

One of the owners of a local truck tire shop told me they consider
the SRA designation Goodyear uses mean, "zero traction in Snow, Rain, Anything.

I bought my 1st, and last, set of Goodyear tires in 1976, recognized the mistake, and have never repeated it since. There are far too many quality, reliable, and superior tires available.

Goodyear SRA's were THE worst tire rated on Tire Rack. The very bottom. Now ask why Stellantis puts these on at the facctory.

Duratracs were better, but not top.
Knowing how Stellantis likes to penny pinch, could the $$$$$$$$$$$$ to tire be an incentive, LOL???

Kinda why I ditched the SRA's as soon as I could when I bought the truck in 2018 and got Wildpeaks.
