OEM brake controller compatibility

i just bought an OEM brake Controller. #82215040AB
I just noticed the description is says this is for a 2016-2017 Ram. Mine is a 2015.
The part looks identical to 82214492AB. I see a few sites that say the 82215040ab part number will work on 2015s as well. Can anyone confirm? I have AlfaObd and can flash it myself..

It was hard to tell but I saw a variation in part numbers when I bought for my 2015. I don’t know what the difference is but I ordered part 82214492, which is said to be for a 2015 and it works. Seems to be interchangeably listed with and without the “ab” on the end.

I would consult your dealer's service department and make sure, in particular, the software is the correct version and here is why.

Beginning with MY15 production, RAM introduced a newly design ITBM. It was soon discovered that stopping heavier trailers became difficult once the vehicle speed dropped below 30 MPH. The ITBM would greatly reduce the amount of brake signal going to the trailer putting the burden of stopping on the TV. RAM finally corrected this issue and released a software update (November 2016) for both the ITBM and the ABS module. You may want to be sure both your ITBM and your ABS modules have the correct software versions so they play together.

I went ahead and installed pn #82215040AB in my 2015 and it work perfectly. Maybe this will help someone else as the kit costs considerably less on ebay than the older pn...
